Webra 80 racing
Anybody ever run one of these engines? How does it compare to the Hanno special (power, durability, user-friendliness)?
Thanks, Will |
RE: Webra 80 racing
hay fly willy. how was the performance of the blue headed hanno compared to the stock hanno.
|
It's about 20% more power using 5% nitro 20% oil.

Here are some pictures of the 80 Racing Competition and the 61 Racing Competition

Ralph,
have you you run both those engines on the same prop, fuel and plug? Say an 11x9, 11x10 and 15% Omega fuel? That would be an interesting comparison - see how much more muscle the 80 has. While it has 20% more capacity, I bet it only increases in power by less than 10%... But..., 1400 rpm is nothing to sneeze at. I wonder if the Racing 80 has more muscle than the Speed/13? It should, but does it? I hope you're running a spreadsheet with all your tests and results! For the rest of us to refer to... ;-) David |
David the 61 Comp seems to like the APC 12x10 when using no or low nitro giving around 11300 rpms. The 80 comp I'm using a APC 12.5x13 turning 10k. so far on 5% nitro. The engine has unknown hours on it. Right now I have it torn down getting some cylinder work done on it. Also putting new bearings while I have it apart.

David the engine ran pretty good when I got it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m_zZyxKs4z0
Although after disassembling it the piston/cylinder is not very tight and I could feel the bearings so they needed to be replaced. Rod was in excellent shape. |
Congrats to your 80 Racing :) - I didn not locate one so far...

Thanks. Took me four years.
Keep looking. |
I have heard the YS 61 classic turns a 11x9 at 14,000 plus. I this as good as the 80?
|
Webra 80 is strictly a low rpm engine. 11k tops.
|
Thanks I wasn't sure

The front case is the same as the 61 Competition, crank etc.
It's the same era as the Hanno, YS 61 AR and Webra 61 LS Racing Competition. Differently more power than any of these. |
...and That's why I was looking at them. Of course, when I asked the question 6 years ago Webra was still in business... :-(
Pretty hard to find now. |
flywilly bummer. I guess in 2009 you passed on getting one. I have a NIB but I doubt I can bring myself to ever run it.
|
flywilly sent you a pm, by chance did you get it?
|
I was missing around a couple weeks ago ran the 61 red head with 5% nitro 20% oil, full length header, Hatori 700 pipe APC 12.5x11.5 turned 9500 rpm.

Ralph,
I think I'll eventually have what's needed for the subject of this thread! ;) 6' length!, 65" span, 850 squares, framed up surfaces, plug-in wings, once piece stab, 3/32" skinned top deck, skinny foils for good penetration (13% wing, 12% stab), etc... The original was a tank at 11+ lbs. I'm hoping for 9 lbs max for 80 RE power or,... one of today's monsters such as a YS Classic or a YS AR/OS Hanno. I'm thinking 13" props. Work in progress... Whoo hooo, I have my Webra 80 back together with new bearings and a re-chromed cylinder and fitted piston. Now to run it.
There has to be someone else that has ran this engine or the 61 competition. Would love to hear your experience with the engine. |
