RE: This years projects
Thanks for the positive comments everyone.
Ralph - my sentiments exactly thus the stickers, also to harass the heli guys a little, I do go both ways now. It's a lot easier since gyros were invented. Ron - planned to maiden them both last Friday but the 35 year old bearings in the Rossi 60 pumper in the P8 felt a little rough. Both engines ran fine on the bench but I decided to swap out the bearings in the one before they shell. Scott - feel free to use the photos as you wish. Let me know if you want more - definitely for a good cause! |

Love the sticker. . .do you mind if I get a copy made for my plane? We gots the profile "outlaws" at our field too. . .

RE: This years projects
I did the layouts and a good friend and avid modeler (he's also a moderator on RC Universe) Andy G cut them. I expect he still has the layouts and I expect he would cut some for you at a very reasonable price. Here is a link to his web site http://www.customcutgraphix.com

RE: This years projects
Well Mitch I have to ask you, are you going for the “Phoenix Rising” theme with your graphics? (Dumb Question) I love how the graphics on the wing create the illusion of bird wings and of course the fire yellow. How does the bottom look? Solid yellow? I always wanted to paint a Phoenix and capture the rising from fire concept. I think your graphics does it in a very clean format that I love. So if you were not trying to interpret “Phoenix Rising” then serendipity has played a mighty hand.
PS I'm very jealous. I flew Phoenix in competition in the early 70's to 79. I quit flying in 79 and returned recently. One of my goals is to have one of each version of the Ps. You are half way there! |
RE: This years projects
I'm partial to the one with the shorter nose, from a strictly cosmetic prospective. The one that's in the rear, in the first picture. Would that be the Phoenix 7?

Very nice ! Vince Hobe Sound |
RE: This years projects
The Phoenix theme was my exact intent. It is a bit more subtle but if you look closely you will see that they both have forked tails also. I was initially planning my classic pattern checkerboard at the root and striped leading edge, but as I started laying out the tape for the trim colors I decided to go this way because they were both phoenixes. The bottoms are all yellow. As I get older I have reverted, again, to the old trainer trick of distinctive difference between the top and bottom simply because my eye sight is not what it used to be and the contrast does help, particularly in following the orientation in a spin.

RE: This years projects
Nice planes, you can see attention to detail in those gorgeous tailplane fillets, but you spelt "hoovering" wrong!!! :D
|
RE: This years projects
It was late and I did do a double take!!! If I had spelled it "hoovering" wouldn't it be more directed at the ducted fan guys!?!
hover –verb (used without object) 1.to hang fluttering or suspended in the air: The helicopter hovered over the building. 2.to keep lingering about; wait near at hand. 3.to remain in an uncertain or irresolute state; waver: to hover between life and death. –noun 4.the act or state of hovering. hoover –verb (used with object)(often initial capital letter) Chiefly British. to clean with a vacuum cleaner. |

joke
/dʒoʊk/ Show Spelled [johk] Show IPA noun, verb, joked, jok·ing. –noun 1. something said or done to provoke laughter or cause amusement, as a witticism, a short and amusing anecdote, or a prankish act: He tells very funny jokes. She played a joke on him. |

Mitch - You have matched the spinner's to the nose, looks perfect to me. Any mod's to the nose for spinner fit ?
Vince |
RE: This years projects
No mods. I do shop for the spinner that has the best angle, they are not all the same. It is always the most expensive one = see joke above. Seriously I use metal spinners almost exclusively and there is a limited selection. These are standard true turn and they fit very well. I use a 1/16 ply shim to get the angle and spacing perfect which I think is critical to the way the front end looks.
