RE: 2011 C40 race schedule for N. Alabama
Hard to take out the competition because most guys have more than 1 plane ready to go. Nothing can go on the leading edge or protrude from it. "Sticky stuff" of your choice is legal on the leading edge.

My three Legal Weapons are here, one was purchased by Jamie so the fight will soon be on!
I'll be using the Magnum XLS engines (they are here too) and Jamie has an older XL. We have packing tape and such on order and will be building our planes soon!
The Legal Weapon is a nice kit. I love the simplicity of it.
Frank, any pointers you would like to share in the construction? How hard is it to get the plane built at the minimum weight?

I think they are fairly easy to get at the minimum weight and wont require much to get them there. I know on the two of our wild thing combat planes we had, they had to have about 2 full sticks of lead to make them meet minimum weight requirements. Of course the wild thing had a much smaller wing span and both of the ones we got are now trashed. We are going to build up a battle axe stock for the next time around and also make another one of our balsa built up hybrid combat planes.

The new Magnums will scream just fine on 10% fuel. 8 x3 MA props only...get a bag of them!
Building to minimum # is no problem. The ones that fly best are "overweight". No Kidding!!!
I have been using Hitec HS-82MG servos. The full size HS-322HD works just as well and will add an ounce...and cheaper!
Plastic gear servos will not take a lick!!!
3 ounces of fuel is plenty. I use Tetra or Jett bladder tanks-no sag or foaming start to finish. The Jett is round and fits securely between the aluminum rails.

Our "King of the Hill" combat will be in September or early October. Alex Treneff, who makes and sell the "BattleAxe", will have an RCCA sanctioned event in June or July I think. That would be in Jackson, TN.
I would like to have one just for fun this spring or summer.

You guys need to stop talking about "Combat" as I am really getting interested and I don't have time to keep up with what I am doing now!
Whatever happened to the big guy that had the mid air with McGowan practicing for Club 40? The one race I saw him at he was doing very well.
I really need to get my stuff together for this next year.

That would be the same big guy that Calamusa hit head on - Randy Bosworth. Bos still speaks to both, but I wouldn't take him out again Yes, he is fast and loves pylon racing!

Is that my plane in the center with a slight lead?
I know, before you say it, that's my plane so far behind I didn't make the picture............ Wait until next year..............
I like the logo. Good job.

I like that just fine! Great work.
Can you add a 4th plane? Not necessary, I'm being picky!
Maybe a black/white one in the rear? Or cutting the pylon?

Maybe you are meaning to go ahead and add that cow colored white and black spotted plane in the back as he is about to lap everyone? Yeah, thats it![X(]
Yes Barry, the big guy is "Bos" Randall Bosworth and he will certainly be a force to reckon with in the 2011 season. Unfortunately he does not have a computer and cant join in the trash talk here on RCU.
Hi Jamie !!!! Hi Barry !!!

More great news from the guys in Nashville!
Tim, After reviewing your race schedule we are applying for the two race days listed below.
July 23, 2011 at Cane Ridge Park and
September 24, 2011 at Peeler Park
I hope these two dates will work for in your schedule. I will coordinate with the Peeler Park
Club for their race and should there be any confilicts I will let you know.
Charles Waterston ( MTRCS Club VP ) and myself would like to meet with you and the other
club officers so we may review all aspects of the race event.
Perhaps we can select some central point to meet and iron out the details before the
season begins. Please let me know if this is possible.
Thanks !

RE: 2011 C40 race schedule for N. Alabama
Those of you that have been following what we have been doing in North Alabama are aware of the huge growth that we have experianced in only one season of Club 40 racing. The nearly 30 entries we had at the end of the season caused a few problems that we were not quite ready for or were expecting to have.
Last season was a learning season and we now know what needs to be done to manage our races. We started off trying to keep everything simple and fun. This season we will keep the fun and hopefully make our lives simple-er by making a few changes to how we operate.
Last weekend CDs from five local clubs met to decide on how we would proceed. Basically we have decided to adopt the standards that most everyone else has been using. We will be using the NMPRA / Paul Herman scoring software and colored stickers for airplane ID. We will retain our caller / lap counters. We also worked up a tech inspection checklist and a common pilots briefing checklist. All of our races will have the same rules and operations.
One change that we were 100% in agreement with was the elimination of bubbless tanks. The stock airplane has a clunk style tank and that is what we will be using. The tank must be at least 6 oz capacity just like the stock tank. We want the airplanes to be built as they were designed. All other RCPRO rules are being enforced.
The other thing that we were in total agreement on is our Midair rule. If a midair occurs (the airplane(s) hit anything) they are to land for inspection. Failure to land could result in elimination from the race event. After inspection, if the airplane(s) have been found to be damaged, they will be awarded zero points for the heat. If no damage is found then the pilot(s) will receive a score of one point.
The reason that we are enforcing the midair situation so strict is because of the high number of midairs that we have had. We want the pilots to back off and give each other room. The AMA has let us race on a short course with a short distant setback and we are not going to take chances on getting someone hurt when a known problem may exist. Think about it, what is the purpose of having a safety inspection at the start of a race and then not inspect the airplane after you know it has been hit and possibly damaged? SAFTEY FIRST!

Tim,
The group's desicions sound fine with me. Can or will you publish a list of the items that will be reviewed in the tech inspection? It may be a good reminder for all of us to inspect our planes before we get to the race and hopefully fix something beforehand. Same goes for the pilots meeting checklist. Once again the thought is to be familiar with everything beforehand.
Thanks for working so hard so I can have fun.........

One other thing that I just noticed is that the RCPRO rules does not mention the engine mount. We will only allow a nylon beam type mount (again, stock like). No direct firewall mounts will be allowed. You can substitute a Hayes or Dave Brown, etc. type NYLON mount for the stock mount.
Yeh, maybe we are being paranoid but we have a good thing going here and want to keep it in control. If we keep the airplane and engine as stock as possible we can keep this going. A lot of us old timers saw what happened to Q-500 many years ago when it got totally out of control. The rules were there but were often ignored. Not this time.
