North Tx Pylon Race #2 20 June 2015 Mansfield, TX
North TX Pylon Race #2 , Saturday, June 20, 2015
The 2nd race in the N.Tx. Pylon Racing Org's 2015 Q-25/Club 40 & EF-1 Pylon Racing series is June 20, 2015.
This will be a Two (2) Pylon Course, 400 feet between Pylons.
We will be alternation classes between Q-25/Club 40 & EF-1.
We will fly the Q-25's and the Club 40's in the same heats since previous head-to-head testing has shown that the airplanes are essentially the same speed when flown smoothly.
The fuel will be 15% and you must provide your own fuel (we will trust you, if you win by using greater than 15% fuel, you aren't a winner, just a cheater)
June 20, 2015, at the Golden Triangle Club Field.
Registration will begin at 10 AM, 11 AM will be a short pilot meeting and then the 1st Heat Race.
Registration will be $15 per event and $5 for lunch.
Jim Fulton Field, 2820 Seeton Road, Grand Prairie, TX 75054.
GPS either: 32.569747, -97.044464 or N 32 deg, 34 min, 11.09 sec, W 97 deg, 2 min, 40.07 sec.
Hope to see ya'll there!!

I'm going to drive out to Jim Fulton Field on Thursday afternoon after I get back from work. I'll see just how bad it is. Frank Cox sent Sarge and myself an email saying that there is significant water on the grass areas of the field and that the pylons would be in the water... hmmm. Maybe it will dry out, and maybe not. I'll let you know. I'll send out an email and post to the various forums whether it's worth trying to race or not. Tropical Storm Bill has caused Joe Pool lake to begin rising again. Same with Benbrook lake and T-bird field. But at least my grass is green!

Hi racers:
I went out to Jim Fulton Field on Thursday afternoon at about 3pm to see what the condition of the field was in the wake of T.S. Bill. In a nutshell, it's VERY marginal.
The petromat runway itself is solid, but the ground underneath is saturated such that when you walk on it, water seeps up through the petromat and makes a wet footprint. The tree line to the East of the runway is completely flooded. The grass areas are mixed. The North end is flooded and the #2 pylon would be in the water about calf deep. The South end is not underwater but the Johnson grass is about 3 feet high and the ground is soggy. It would be necessary to wade out on the North end to erect and disassemble the pylon. At it's closest point, the water is about 25 feet from the edge of the runway, but this is a depressed area and the water would have to rise another 2-3 feet to flood the runway itself.
The entire backstretch would be over water. If you went down on the back of the course or from pylon #2 to the start line, you would be going down in water. The effect on your EF-1 and RC equipment would be "unpleasant" at best.
I have not looked at the lake levels today, but they are rising.
Bottom line: It's "do-able" but just barely and with some risk to equipment. IF I can get a MINIMUM of 8 different individuals who will FIRMLY commit to being there and are willing to wade out to put up and take down the pylons, then I am willing to give it a try and see if we can get a race in. If not, then we will just write this one off and all wander down to HCRC next Sunday for the EF-1 race and wait for things to dry out a bit around here. If you are willing to firmly commit, based on the challenges outlined, then send me an email of PM and we'll see how many we can get.
I attach 3 photos that I took of the field today so that you can get an idea of what we would be up against
Sorry that the pictures are upside down. Flip them with your software.

Cancelled
Well, it's 5pm on Friday and only a very few thought that racing under these conditions would be a good idea. I agree. It would be nasty, so let's cancel due to the flooded field and just plan on getting together at HCRC in Austin next Sunday for the EF-1 race. See ya when it dries out!
