What Ride (Viehicle) Takes your RC Models to-from the RC Field?
Hello guys!
Just curious to note of everyone's RIDE (Vehicle) that takes your RC Models to the RC Club Field or your favorite location.
Allow "me" to start! I have own and driven one certain 1992 Toyota Camry XLE that was built in Japan and has been my super dependable vehicle for all sorts of RC Airplane Fleet that I have.
As small of 15 inch wing span all the way to 80+ Inch wing span (ALL ELECTRIC of Course!).
Well, this vehicle was acquired here locally in Central Florida at 15,823 miles so, I am 2nd owner, however is now has 507,607 original miles without any Engine Rebuilt History! (2.2 Liter Gasoline - 5S-FE Toyota Designation).
It is a 4-Door sedan with all the bells and whistles at the time and has 40/60 folding back seats which makes it ideal for the larger models and this allows easy transport without disassembling the model.
On Monday, I had a scare that my Beloved Camry finally hit it's last spark and kick because it died less than one (1) mile from my house!
As many of you who live in Central Florida and know me or perhaps can recall, I own and drive this one certain 1992 Toyota Camry XLE and now with over 507,000 original miles without any Engine Rebuilt history! The Engine still has the original injectors and of course Valves and on Monday was scary at best because it died on me about less than one mile away from my house.
Needless to say, it had two (2) Issues......from Monday (08-07-2017):
1. The Idle Air Control Valve and typically known as the IAC has two small coolant Bypass hoses that ties into the IAC housing and the IAC is right below to the Throttle Body inlet port. It is a simple system by which a Coil is within the Electrical Housing and at the mechanical housing side sits a Magnetized rotating valve. The Coolant provides the stimulant for the Coil to reduce the magnetic field due to temperature increase and thus reducing the Engine RPMs when the Engine Finally gets to efficient operating temperature. Well, one of the two hoses finally failed and sprayed all kinds of coolant nearby.
2. The coolant of course got sprayed (under Pressure) at the Distributor and as you may know these Distributors don't have a water tight seal, just a dust seal and it shorted and reason why the car quit and left me walking.
I finally got the IAC Coolant Bypass hoses from Toyota Dealer at Winter Park and going to replace both to make sure the car keeps one driving!

My ride is. 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo. Purchased new has 198000 miles. Has been a perfect vehicle until the past year. Then I got a case of the dreaded Jeep engine stalling sickness. I went thru the Jeep checking systems and finally determine it was the PCM. Got a reman from AuotZone. Jeep has been great since. Took a risk taking a trip to Florida with 3 dogs. Not even a hiccup. Trusting it again.
Guapoman do you fly at a club in Orlando? If so, where at? I'm aware of the club in Kissimmee but have not researched Orlando. My visit was to Kissimmee.

I drive a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. I've removed the back seat. Has 190,000 on it. Runs good, but the steering has started growling the last few days. Gonna have to look at it this weekend.

The most boring car ever owned second only to family's '72 Nova 4-dr sedan w/AM radio: a Honda Odyssey in the most common color ever on this non-head turning, anti-babe magnet. Fit around first giant scale that wouldn't require removal of the tail, so I made the decision. The sliding rear doors do allow some ease of loading model stuff in the garage without opening the garage door but I can't open the hatch inside the opened garage. Used to driving manual tranny and dislike the switch to automatic even for traffic. Also hate mid-row seats that don't fold into the floor, touch-screens, turn/lane-change signals that give a minimum of three blinks, camera views of every view except straight ahead, headlights that don't turn off, and a clock that's a safety hazard in itself to set. As a matter of fact, all the safety features seem to be safety hazards or annoyances to some degree themselves.

I currently use an '03 Dodge Ram truck to transport my planes to the field. This beast has a Leer fiberglass top on the bed that is painted the same color as the truck and actually looks very nice I fashioned a shelf at the top of the fenders to form two levels in the bed. I normally put the wings on the shelf and the fuselages on the floor below, but this beast has a 350 hemi engine in it and it it eats gasoline at a fantastic rate. I owned a Chevy Caprice station wagon in the 70s. With the middle and rear seats folded down, I could lay a full 4' by 8' sheet of plywood flat on the floor and the tail gate was hinged so that it would open from the top (like a truck) or swing from the side. The cargo space was huge and the ease of access due to the rear door opening either from the top or from the side made getting into it very easy. I have seriously been thinking about trying to find one of these exclusively for hauling models to and from the field. Buick had an identical wagon, but I have forgotten what they called it.

I use 2 vehicles:... '03 Dodge Ram Hemi Quad Cab, purchased new has 52K miles, no topper, just place junk into back fold down steel floor; great vehicle, [a Keeper for sure; I plan on driving dis 1 thro the pearly gates/or hell itself, whatever transpires], it's just the perfect PU.
...'13 Infiniti Q56, huge SUV, can carry models fully assembled to flying site, and hopefully home in same condition; this vehicle replaces my '08 Nissan
Armada SUV, which I think had more interior space with the back 2 rows seats folded down. Just luv these Nissan/Infiniti SUVs....best in da world.

I use a 2001 Ford Windstar SEL that I picked up for $2,000.00 usd. It has a video system, front and rear A/C systems, electric side doors and rear door. I took out all the back seats and installed a rack that can hold 3 60 size airplanes. Also on board is 12 volt charging system, Gasoline generator, 10 x 10 canopy, electric fan, tool boxes, field box, 3 gallons of fuel, The picture looks like everything is just thrown in, but everything is sitting in a secure place so as not to bounce around and get damaged.

2016 F150 with a topper for the little planes, or the 12 x 6 enclosed behind the F150 for the bigger planes. I used to have a 2013 Flex and was able to put a CARF 330L in it along with 3 other planes, a lot more room than the F150, houwever, I can still take 4 passengers along with a few small planes in the F150 where the Flex, 1 passenger as the other two rows of seats were folded down to fit the planes.

Okay, I'll bite. A couple of years ago, I found a 2002 Mazda B2300 pickup on Craigslist. This thing is not to be believed! Garage kept and impeccably maintained, I snatched it up in a blur. I have a bunch of 3/4" PVC to make a custom rack for my "normal sized" airplanes.
This little truck fits my lifestyle perfectly. I love it!

Power windows? Ha! This is a truck, not a Cadillac. 5-speed, no carpet, no cloth, no chrome. The radio does have AM and FM. Factory air works great. Required for the Vegas heat, though. This thing is bone stock! But it looks and drives like a new truck. I totally scored...big time.

2000 Chevrolet Express full size cargo van bought new. Now has 156,000 miles on it. Power door locks, a/c, power windows, cloth seats, upgraded tires and wheels as well as grill and bumpers. Allows me to haul many of my planes with the wings on. In fact, right now in the van are a Eflite Carbon Z T-28 (the big one), a Fliteline 1600MM Spitfire, a Habu 32, an Eflite P-47, a Parkzone T-28 and a Freewing Avanti S.
