Lets see your Biplane!!!

RE: Lets see your Biplane!!!
Hi Airroy: It's an easy build. All balsa/ply, sheeted and glassed structure. Cowl, pants, gear, canopy and a really cool set of wing tips are available.
The model flies like it's on rails. Mine is certainly not overpowered with the OS engine, but it still moves right along.
The challenge in flying the Mong is getting consistent landings. The airplane really wants to nose over during roll out. I've noticed that a lot of the guys that race this design have gone to a conventional fuselage mounted gear. It would be an easy mod, and I think would cure the landing problems.

Here's mine! It's a 55" span Krier Kraft Acromaster built from RCM plans. Covered in white Solartex and painted with Perfect paints. Powered by an O.S. .61 FX. Flies nice!

RE: Lets see your Biplane!!!
What a great thread with some good looking airplanes. Right now the only bipe in the fleet is a scratched built ag-cat. 3 lbs with a 14 oz/sqft wing loading. Just kinda floats around. Good on floats too. After I finish the Gee Bee on the building board, I am going to start a scaled down Hog Bipe for a .30 4-stroke. Should be neat.

RE: Lets see your Biplane!!!
Has anyone built a twin biplane? I'm pretty sure they're rare as real planes... the only one I recall is some kind of WW1 Gotha bomber that had the motors mounted on the struts between the wings. I think it had alot of problems with the motors breaking off the struts and falling to the ground below, with the rest of the plane not far behind.
I just did a search. Click [link=http://www.wwiaviation.com/bombers_german.shtml]here[/link] for it. 3 different bipes made by 3 different german ww1 companies (i was right, one's gotha! hehe) the 3rd one is actually a 4-engine, with... i dont know what its called, 2 engines on the same struts, one pusher and one puller on each side of the plane. neat, eh? that plane would be fun to build.
I hope the link worked...

RE: Lets see your Biplane!!!
I worked on Bevo Howard's Buecher when I got out of the Air Force in 67. It's now hanging in the new Smithsonian in DC. This is a 40 size replica that I won't fly. It's just too cool. Cloth covered, hand done checkerboard and stripes, clearcoated. Metal cowl with bump-outs. Probably built in the 50' or 60's. Swiftflier

RE: Lets see your Biplane!!!
I have a 1/2 Scale Smith Mini Plane Scale Model in the basement in the works. I can send more pic's. My hope is that is will make it up the stairs to get it to the field to fly. It is a Jack Stafford models Short Kit with plans, Pic CD, Fiberglass cowl, and landing gear. Also have a 1/4 Scale Smith that is Jack Stafford coming in kit form.
