weather is beautiful, but our field (Scobbe field in West Houston) is completely gone (flooded). We have no idea when we can use it again. Must be full of snakes, gators and mud crawfish. At least 15" under water

Unggh.
Got a little wet last Sunday. It had been drizzling a bit on-and-off as the day progressed.
Nothing major, just clouds passing.
Noticed an ugly cloud system coming in and decided to stow the gear in the SUV.
Stopped to argue politics with one of my flying mates.
(30 mins passes)
Wups! Was that a drop? No time to dissassemble the ME-109, so I'll just stick it under
the truck. Hop in, fire up the A/C, crack a soda and read a magazine until this
"little bit of rain" passes.
(one hour and one inch of rain later)
Started to hop out until I realized that I was in the center of a fairly deep puddle.
A peek under the truck revealed that the poor plane was sitting up to its wheeltops in muddy water.
Bugger bugger bugger!
Retrieved it, stuck it (and one pair of now-soaked hiking boots) in the back and beat it for home.
The engine is OK as is the airframe, but the (foam-core) wheels had to be changed.
It will fly again.

Are you from the V.I. , or are you just living there ? I have been a couple of times there, but mostly at the BVI's (I love Virgin Gorda).

NO GUTS TO FLOAT AT SCOBEE
PLAGUED by the lack of a good place to Float Fly, when I actually saw Scobee I "thought" of doing just that.
Then I CHICKENED out because I cannot be sure that I won't hit a shallow spot. I can just see the plane on t/o or on landing, hitting a piece of hard ground.
Good bye.....J-3
So, for lack of real cojones.........I still can't fly off water.....
sheeesh
Now if AERONUT would just respond : blue/white J-3 on Floats ? have you flown it yet ?
