Just bought a Great Planes 40 size Cub and intend to put floats on it. I'm looking for opinions to help me decide on whether to build the full (76.5 in) or clipped (61.5 in) version. I've been flying for about 4 years..Sig 4*, H9 SuperStick, and Sig Ultimate Fun Fly Bipe, and don't anticipate any trouble flying the cub, just looking into a first scale project and would like to try the floats. I'll likely go with a 70 size 4 stroke. Any thoughts on the clipped vs full wing version is appreciated.

Depends on your goals. If you want to do nice slow touch and goes, smooth flight and fly it like a cub is meant to fly, then go full wing. If you want to do snaps and stuff like that, clip it. I build all my cubs full wing, but they do great aerobatics that way too. I can snap it and anything else I want, but when it comes time to do touch and goes on floats, there is no better bird.

A friend of mine has a clipped wing on floats and he loves it. It takes alittle longer on take off and sinks faster on landing then a full wing Cub but it still flies great.

I have flown both types of cubs and you could never convince me to build a full wing. The clipped wing with a 70 4 stroke is a dream come true on land sea or air.

Thanks for the input, I'm going with the clipped wing version.

You could buy a wing kit and build one of each.
