The Sun is NOT my Friend!
About three years ago I became very sensitive to the sun. My doctor says it is probably due to too much sun as a youngster - that was many, many years ago. Apparently sun exposure is accumulative. I try and do all the right things - lots of sunscreen, long sleeve shirts, funny but good coverage hat, long pants, etc. I often fly late in the day but cannot do this always if I want to fly with friends or at a contest. I stay under the shelter unless actually flying. Thinking of buying a canopy to take with me to the field, in case the shelter is crowded.
Do any of the rest of you have this problem? Any special things you have found that help? It can sure cramp your style!

I've been getting a lot of cold sores - which are 'activated' by the sun (booze and stress also - but WHO would have any of that???) and living in Arizona, I get a lot of sun....lucky our field faces north, northwest so early morning and mid-day it is OK to fly, but I too stay in the shade as much as possible.

RE: The Sun is NOT my Friend!
The Sun can certainly cramp your style. I'm 65 years old, grew up in S. FLa, and I'm beginning to reap the rewards. I had 3 melanomas removed last year. I go every 3 months for a skin examination. I swim in sun screen. I wear special long sleeve sun shirts that are very light weight and vented, and a BIG hat. My EZ-UP shelter goes with me everywhere.
We didn't know better back in the 50's. No one wore protection; fabric or liquid. But today, with the known damage that the sun can cause, people that think a tan is great have their head in the sand. Everyone should be covering up. Then when you think about holes in the ozone and global warming, yikes!!
I think I'll go back to bed and cover up.
