Wow, it's truly amazing how much the aircraft have changed over the years. The last time I went to Joe Nall the vast majority of models were military aircraft. Nothing wrong with Extras and Yaks but they now seem to dominate the event, based on those photos.

This was my first trip to Joe Nall and it was awesome. I was a spectator. The thing to me that was incredible was the fact that the public had free range to roam anywhere, anytime (except when Matt Chapman performed). You could stand right next to a guy starting his RCS radial. The sound had to be heard to be believed. I saw none of the competitors annoyed that I knew of because of the public. Everyone seem to make sure they were givin room to operate. I've seen Top Gun twice and that sure doesn't happen there. You get the usual close down the flightline for a half hour and walk around the models and look. It was great for taking pictures. rainedave is right about the aerobats. There seemed to be 3-4 of them to one of anything else.

So glad you enjoyed yourself. The reason we can give free access like we do is because we do not let the general public in. That was my job for 9 hours every day at the gate, to make sure at least one person in each car had an AMA card. We are just happy to have all these people come to our wonderful field and fly for a week.

Well Joe Nall 2007 has come and gone but the memories will last a long time. One of the many very cool aspects of this event is the full scale air show by Matt Chapman. I'll include a much longer segment of Matt on the upcoming Joe Nall DVD. For now I have uploaded a short clip of his best torque roll from the show on Thursday. It is especially cool hearing him call out the maneuvers while he does them. See the vid here:

This was my first year also at Joe Noll and wont be my last. I had a blast up there! I agree about the free roam was very nice to be able to go anywhere.
I really enjoyed getting up and close to some of my favorite planes and checking out the insides and how they set up their planes. I seen QQ's turbine Yak before in the magazines and on Internet. Was really nice to see it fly take a look at it up close. The list goes on and on, I had way to much fun, felt like a kid on christmas day!
I did notice on QQ Python that he was using one servo for the rudder. From what I seen it worked very well and was suprised to see just one servo in there. Was interesting.
