Yeah it's a great idea and the SawStop brand saws are some of the best built saws around. (they have to be to survive a blade stop)

Down sides are cutting materials that conduct electricity will trigger the system. Carbon Fiber panels may trigger it.
It can be disabled for cutting materials that conduct electricity.

If you do set it off it will take a new cartridge and blade to get it going again.

The only thing I don't like isn't the systems fault.. It's the patent holders.
He's been trying to get congress to pass regulations requiring Saw Stops on all saws sold in the US.
After his Royality fee of %8 of the sales price plus an extra $100 in parts you can imagine what that will do to the price of a table saw.

A goodgle search turns up lots to information about the issues.

Yeah..I agree...a patent coupled with required legislation is not fair to consumers where you must pay their gate fee (no competition). If they did that then the company could set their royalty wherever they want.

I'm working on same invention for propellers so if we stick fingers in propellers the motor stops and you don't cut or chop your finger off.

Sorry, guys, I am going to be a bit of a contrarian here. What saves fingers is thinking about what you are doing and paying attention. Safety equipment can work both ways. It can protect us, and it can contribute to our complacency resulting in more more harm. I agree with Marc too, I would not expect Congress to pass legislation creating a non-competitive control of a very large market.

I will keep using what I have, thanks.
