Comet model airplane kit: Stearman fighter.
Hello!
I have this old Stearman fighter from Comet Model Airplane & Supply CO., INC.
Can anyone tell me when was it built (couldn't see it on the box). And how valuable this is today?
It's a complete package, I even have the rubber that was supplied with it.

A Stearman Fighter? That's a new one on me, never heard of one, nor seen photos of one. Anybody got one, I'd like to see what it looked like. I don't doubt that somewhere on this planet someone rigged a Stearman with Armanment of some sort with the sole purpose of using it as a Warbird in a hostile manner. But I can't remember Boeing/Stearman manufacturing such a bird. But hey, would one rigged as a Bug Busting Crop Duster count as a fighter?

Check out this for more info on Comet. http://www.antiquemodeler.org/pdf_fi...t%20Models.pdf
I remember building some Comet kits in the early fifties and remember the boxes being as Jim Messer described in an earlier post.
My guess is pre-war.
I also notice that the plans show a cowling. Did the military PT-17 have a cowling?

RE: Comet model airplane kit: Stearman fighter.
I am looking for information about the model airplane kits in the attached photos. The top kit in the first picture seems to be in a general-pupose box that Comet must have used for multiple kits because there is no model description or number on the exterior of the box; the plane inside is a Boeing F4B4. All of these boxes card stock with flaps that open on the ends except for that one Comet box, which has a lid. I have not yetinventoried these boxes of sticks for completeness.
I have taken additonal photos of the contents of the Boeing F4B4. The wheels look like they were die-stamped out of balsa blocks. The engine cowl is metal and still shiny. The instructions are dated 1-5-35 by the draftsman, Ray Chevedden. The engine is made of a very lightweight plastic andmarked "Made in Japan". The tissue paper is intact. There is a small corked bottle of silver paint which was long-ago dried out; I think that this was for the plastic engine. This kit seems to be the best accessorized, and the earliest in the bunch; I have found references on the web to peices being removed from wartime kits due to material shortages.
I would be grateful for any information that anyone can provide about these kits. I admire kits of this type, but do not have the time to build them. Is there a place where vintage flying model kits are traded, where I can get a rough idea of the value of these kits?
Thanks

Put them on ebay,,
The collectors will bid on them,,, they always do
you'll know their value by the end of the week
I'd be guessing the $20-$30 range each,,, they're not as valuable as you might think,, No if there were Berkley or Royal/MK, Brodak,, those kit fetch more,, much more
