Iam tooling around with the idea of putting a microcontroller on my RC car Does anyone know of any good software out there?

Take a look at arduino. Fairly easy to learn, and they have development boards that you can purchase with inputs/outputs on them. Has built in PWM to control servos too.
What are you wanting the microcontoller to do?

Thanks, Iwill definitely look into that. Iam interested in monitoring the performance. For example the battery level.
Is there a development kit or anything else out there for this, I've been searching on the internet and haven't found much. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Are you looking to just monitor the battery remotely while driving or do you want to be able to download and graph the performance of the battery after you have driven it?

What's the name of that company that sells telemetry stuff. Green Tree, Eagle Tree.... something like that. Look up RC telemetry and you should find something.

Also this rc transmitter has built in telemetry feedback.

I think i saw a car radio that also has car battery telemetry and thought it was airtronics but can't seem to find it now.

i always thought the telemetry feedback could be very useful. Airspeed could be used during approaches to maintian a safe speed. Nice to see it starting to be built in to transmitters. Unfortunately the $500 for the Aurora 9 is a little out of my price range at the moment.

I use PICs from www.microchip.com
Development kits usually start under $200 for programmer, debugger, and board with chip.
I got the Picdem 2 plus with ICD2
