Warning Graphic Picture !!
Getting in a hurry can cost you dearly... I had my Yak setting in my safety retainer, but failed to pull up the locking mechanism in front of the tail..... needless to say A picture is worth a thousand words, the prop severed the first joint on my little finger, took the ends off of the other 3, with fractures on the middle and ring fingers. I had surgery today on the little finger. I can only blame myself... take your time and be careful out there guys.

OUCH, i bet you wont let this happen again. i find the best and most simple model restraints are 2 x heavy duty tent pegs with a foam sleeve fitted over, just wack them in with a hammer and position the model. you can use these for either front main wings or tailplane.

Sorry to see that, hope you heal soon!
I stuck my finger in the prop of a trainer when a couple of us were in a hurry trying to get it to run correctly so that my daughter could fly the trainer, it happened quick.
What size engine is on you Yak?

I set up my larger planes,so I can straddle from behind and flip the prop. I never liked the feel of being in front of a plane that can pull 15 - 30 or more pounds in one second.

That's the worst part Bob. I had those calluses for 50 years and now there gone, plus I lost half a finger. Oh well I must remember, it could have been much worse. I can't give up the hobby, I love it too much. Just need to slow down and pay attention.

That's a good attitude you have. I don't
play like I use too, In 2000 I found out
why. Darn R.A. has taken away my knuckle
joints ability to play. So I Play with another
kind of wood now (Balsa).
Heal Quick,
Bob

RE: Warning Graphic Picture !!
I have been flying RC since around 1972. Early on I saw the results from a prop hit on a large engine when accidents happen. The nature of us humans is that things will go wrong. I'm happy that our club now uses the Engine Starting Safety Stands. For the large planes we have two locations with PVC pipes at ground level and have foam covered sticks that drop into the sunken pipes to safely hold the large planes. I have a tremendous fear of the large prop planes. My largest engines now are the OS46AX.

Guitarman 52, reference
I've played the guitar since I was a kid and I have had some sports injuries, broken hand, knuckles, fingers, thru martial arts and it is a setback, but one you can overcome in time.

Guitarman,
Everybody allways thinks that it will not happen to them. I wish you a fast recovery. I was in the hospital three weeks ago this weekend for a mishap with a prop.

I am healing up really fast. I have just one little scab left to heal. It looks like your hand is going to heal slower though. I hope it does impair your flying. I was back flying the nextweek. I would have flown sooner but did not want to chance it with Vicodin.

Is there a category for injury accidents on this site? I think this belongs in the ARFs myself. Many beginners come here. They need to see the potential dangers of thier new hobby.
