move Toledo swap shop?
fellow modelers,
As anybody who's been there knows, the Toledo show has outgrown the Seagate Center a LONG time ago. The crowds can be almost overwhelming for visitor and exhibitor alike.
One suggestion I have for relieving some of the overcrowding in the main hall, is to move the display models upstairs (they take up a lot of room) and move the swap shop to a different time or to a place nearby, but not in the Seagate center.
I'm wondering if anyone would really miss the swap shop. I've been to Toledo half a dozen times and usually I just walk through the swap shop without buying much of anything. I mainly come to see the exhibitors booths in the main hall and try to learn something about the latest products.
Swap shops are rather commonplace in our hobby, and I would not drive 4 hours to go to one. I can attend a dozen or so within 1 or 2 hours of where I live throughout the year.
Just wondering, and some food for thought.

While I would not want to move the competition models to the second floor, I have to agree with you about the swap meet. To me, most of the stuff was not worth buying, especially at the asking price.
In my opinion, the Swap Shop would not be missed.

RE: move Toledo swap shop?
I went on Saturday so I don't know if it made any difference the other days but there were a lot of open tables this year. A lot of them in the rooms were the same old stuff that's remained unsold for years.
I've seen suggestions to move the model displays out into the front hallway, another possibility. Moving large objects like the tank and rocket upstairs would be a nightmare if not impossible. Even some of the larger planes would be tough to get up there. It's poorly lighted upstairs which wouldn't help either.
Parts of the swap meet area I do enjoy. Some dealers do sell the same things so if you look around a little you can find better prices at some tables. One of the reasons that I go is to shop upstairs. I do that before leaving just in case I end up by buying a lot there. I had to make several trips to my ride as it was before hitting the swap shop. It's a great place for new manufacturers to sell items without buying a high-dollar space on the main floor.

I wouldn't change a thing.
What would the showroom floor be without the gorgeous models on display?
And while I wouldn't drive 4 hours to see the swap shop, I always breeze through it and I usually buy something up there.
I probably wouldn't walk a block away to see it, but as long as it's right there, I always look.
