It was sloooow and we had some odd issues crop up that we did not like the look of so decided to abort until we can find out why. RCU will always be fast! The issues at hand caused undue load so we are with the team of developers now looking at it.

We intend to complete the launch and merge in the next week or two at most.

For those of you who had a sneak peak I hope you like what you saw!

Yeah I was looking at it 10 minutes ago and now back to the same format. Was starting to get used to it. I did click on the My Forums tab in the new Tool Bar and it gave me this "We have completed the upgrade of the new site...if you are seeing this it means your DNS has not yet been updated but likely will be within the next few hours or 24 hours at most.

To proceed to the new RC Universe website Click Here"

So I clicked the "Click Here" and was still brought to the old RCU.

I WANT THE NEW RCU.

Wow

I was surfing the new site and was just getting the hang of navigation. Changed personal information etc. Did a little surfing elsewhere and came back - TO THE OLD FORMAT!! Kinda wondered if I had dreamed the whole thing.

Looks like you guys have done an amazing amount of work to get it together - I'm sure the bugs will get fixed eventually.

Marc,

PLEASE OH PLEASE do not go to that software.

If my information was correct, that host was running MS Windows + IIS + ASP.. It will NEVER match the reliability and speed of Linux + Apache + PHP...

And that new format was ugly... I kept searching for a "Classic RCU" theme but.... Switching to the look and feel of the less popular website also isn't a good move IMHO....

I was there also, it was ok, kept showing me as a "Guest" even though I was signed in. If it moves faster it looks to be pretty nice. Daz...

The forums are free
When you say the forums are free, do you mean that they are free to read only or can you post messages free as well?

I logged in but when I entered a forum it listed me as a guest and would not allow me to post messages.

If I have to pay to be able to make posts then forget it. I like talking RC, but I can talk for free with the guys at the field.

Guys,

Nobody warms up to a change instantly...things take a few days to get used to the navigation and look. I spent COUNTLESS hours making the site easy to use. If you give it just a week I assure you that you will quickly and easily find everything you want within 1 click.

The forums are free and include all the features and improvements you guys have been asking me for over the past year. If you don't like the wonderful features we have incorporated you can bookmark the forums and other than a few colors you won't notice the difference.

I am so used to this format - I will not like the new one for a while, untill it gets familiar.

I kinda' liked to see the old one back

The preview I just got looked good.

Good luck ironing out all the bugs Marc!

Had a look at the new site, but green, come on, the colors on the old RCU site were so nice to look at. I am sure a lot of things will be corrected, and I hope the colors.

I like open source too, but, you won't notice any difference, unless you have T1, and even then it'll be almost indistinguishable.

Give the poor guy a chance!

It'll no doubt be OK soon enough.

As long as you're the only one hitting it, you're right...

Problem comes when you have hundreds of people hitting it at the same time. ala RCOnline.

I think this must be the fastest growing thread on RCU ever.

I was just starting to get use to the new one left for a few mins and then when I came back it was gone. Can't wait for u to get the bugs worked out and I think it'll b great.

Got one question about the auctions though. Will there still be a for sale section in the forum? I for one dont want to go through all the hassels of bidding to get an item. I want to be able to buy when I want and then to sell stuff and have the final choice on if I sell or not for a certain price.

Thanks
James

One thing I missed that's different...

At the top of the screen was the "View New messages" and other "quick options" now they are at the bottom...

I'd LOVE to see a button on MyHome to read new in subscribed forums...

FOr the guy who couldn't get the pic in the auction...

You had to "browse" it first THEN select upload... 2-steps...

The new RCU had the #1 most annoying item found in any website - and has been voiced against by many web professionals.

CLICK THRU ADS

That's a LOSER move. Please move away from click thru full page ads.

Even if you have a provision for "click to ignore all click thru ads" it's a website killer from the user perspective.

I agree with David C. Give him a minute to fix what they discovered was wrong. It was obviously buggy and knowing Marc's history here, he would never let it be slow or buggy.

As far as questions on whether or not it's free, I thought there was a FAQ section which addressed that.

Putting it back to the old system is a credit to Marc. He could have easily said, "Oh well, the new site isn't working... I'll let them fumble through it anyway."

There will still be classifieds too...

The nice thing is that these will all be "categorized" so that if there's a thread in 3D FLying about the Funtana, you'll see a list somewhere on the thread pages that says something like: "Funtana's for sale and auction"

It'll be up to the original poster and/or moderator to assign a "product" to the thread... but it oughtta make things sweet...
