Hello everyone,
I am a member in the US Navy and am starting out in the R/C field. I have a couple of simple questions i was hoping that others can answer.
Does any company out there (both product and magazines) offer free samples or demos of thier gear? currently getting ready for an upcoming 7 month deployment and would like to know what companies can support something of this nature.
in anyone has any ideas, please let me know!
thanks for your time!

You can check out the Magazine section here at RCUniverse...there are product reviews, etc. etc.
As far as I know, no one gives out free samples...(wish they did!

If you're looking for a try-before-you-buy, you're looking in the wrong place. Companies don't do that, because the gear they sell has a lifespan that can consist of one use. That said, try-before-you-buy has always been alive and well in this hobby. You just need to put in effort and time. Hobby shops will generally let you inspect and fondle, and clubs will often have a club trainer that can be taken for a spin with an instructor.<div>
</div><div>It would be helpful if you gave more information about which aspects of the hobby you're looking at. People could get you in touch with the right resources that way.</div>

Hmmm...
good idea...
Ok then,
I have a 1/10 scale Exceed Dynamite that i am currently bashing around everywhere (and that my 14 year old son thought that it would be fun to see if it could play "submarine" with. now it's dead.) and i have a superstar .40 that i am trying to bring back to life.
parts that are along those lines would be great, and it is a pretty good idea for clubs and hobby shops, but they arent in the middle of the atlantic or gulf of oman!
anymore help in this would be appreciated!

One does get that feeling. It's something I can't imagine having done when I was in the service. It's one thing when people see a need and offer; it's another when someone asks.

ok,
to all those that are offering their assistance, thank you!
to those that just think that i am trying to "get one over", this isnt the intent.
maybe i didnt make myself too clear in my posts. i know that there are some companies that are out there that are "willing" to offer free samples/magazines/gear just to get thier names out there. if you dont think this works, think again. i have just arranged a couple of free subscriptions to a couple of R / C mags out there for the ship to enjoy while we are gone. i will be getting them, put them in the barber shop, and everyone can enjoy them while they wait their turn.
as for the parts that i "can" use, i own a superstar.40 for a plane (which has suffered rodent damage and i need to rebuild but it is all wood construction project for when i have a lot of free time at home) and as for my truck, the parts are super cheap. i am not gonna ask for anything like a brushless set up. i am content with stock pieces but shipping and handling is usually twice more then the part itself (dont believe me?http://www.nitrorcx.com/exdy1scretor.html) .
if there are others out there that have these that they dont need and wish to help out somebody else, thats great. do you have "older" parts that you have upgraded from that still works like a champ but just collect dust and are really not worth the effort to try to sell? see what i am getting at?
but i am getting away from the point, the whole point of this was for companies themselves that have the overhead and stock and "want" to get the word out about their company, not to ask individuals themselves to "support" me.
anyways,
thanks for your time in reading this.

Sure.<div>
</div><div>Sponsorship is earned. It's marketing. The big companies sponsor the big names, because there's a certain percentage of people who will always think that matters. Unless you're competing, putting on exhibitions, or have a reputation for being particularly knowledgeable and gregarious, you're unlikely to be sponsored. If that's really what you want, you'll need to polish your presentation and make it appear as though you have something to offer them. They're unlikely to think that someone who is deployed will be able to effectively demonstrate and market their products.</div>

i think he was talking about getting magazine subscriptions and also if any brands sample parts, he wasn't asking people for parts he was asking for info that could get him some stuff to do overseas while he's there.
