Harvey is a class 4 storm and is on the shore at Rockport TEX. it is further east than I expected. I hope it dies out soon. it's 9:11 PM still kinda quiet here.

the pope 08-25-2017 06:28 PM

I just saw the news here in Oz and its supposed to hang around a few days and drop a 1000mm of rain . Good luck .

the pope 08-25-2017 06:57 PM

I dont know why people try and stick out natural disasters . But Im a chicken . Its like when people drive through flooded waters . Not much u can do when things get serious . A roll of duct tape and a sheet of ply wont help !

1000mm. That's nearly a year's worth of rain where I now live and more than eighteen months worth of rain in my native Shropshire!

the pope 08-25-2017 09:14 PM

I think thats a large number in anyones book .

donnyman 08-26-2017 06:22 AM

It's 9:15 AM we have rain and winds neither is a problem, harvey has slowed to about 8 MPH and is down to catagory 1 and weakening, so we maybe on the downside of the thing (I hope) a lot of damage where harvey passed over, and we will see rain fro a few days but we don't expect a increase, but one cannot get over confident , it ain't over till it's over. All in all a quiet situation except for the water leak in my kitchen.

Back in the mid 2000's I was in Okinawa. They get 2000mm of rain a year. During Spring, I observed the only difference between a dry day and wet was, a dry day it rained a half day, a wet day it rained all day.

Our thoughts are with you Donny. Looks like you've been lucky except for the leak.

GallopingGhostler 08-26-2017 03:41 PM

I hadn't paid too much attention to news about Donny's neighborhood, there was considerable damage created by the hurricane, so far didn't hear anyone get hurt, hope it stays that way. Was closer to and just north of Corpus Christi. Donny, your son is okay?

Can't believe this Top Flight Schoolgirl schoolyard size sport cabin bipe kit for Cox .020 Tee Dee or .049 reedie, which went for around $6 or $7 forty or fifty years ago is now going for $142. Vintage New In Box Top Flite "Schoolgirl" R/C Model Airplane Kit . There are plans on-line, I'd just make me a kit and build it for far less.

flyboy2610 08-26-2017 03:59 PM

But it's "vintage"! That makes it super valuable...... doesn't it?

It is only valuable in the beholder's eyes. Most of society not into flying in general could care less about it. Children of baby-boomers and grandchildren could care less about it. Stuff like this goes cheap at estate sales.

Here's the plans: https://outerzone.co.uk/plan_details.asp?ID=816

Attached are a plan thumb and mag photos.

Hello! it's 7:30 AM and some wind gust and rain is still with us and I think it will remain that way for most of the week. the storm is stalled and is meandering drawing moisture inland over Houston TX. and spinning it around to my area, Flooding is the primary concern now, my area has only gotten 6.5" of rain but more is expected. OOPS rainfall is now reported at 8.0"

I am in full agreement with you, that little bird can be built from my scrap balsa box for next to nothing, that is why I scratch build from free plans and modify it to suit my taste. I did have the schoolboy kit in the mid 60,s it flew very well in free flight.

FlyerInOKC 08-28-2017 07:26 AM

Cute little bipe!

karolh 08-28-2017 07:36 AM

Yes it really is.

ETpilot 08-29-2017 07:27 AM

This storm has come as close as my county line and no farther. All I've gotten is light rain and no wind. It should continue to move and pass me by. Good thing.

I posted this info on a thread I have going. If you want to see what is going on in Houston, do a search for Houston CH 13 live feed. It is a continuous live feed of news and conditions there. Horrible scene. My prayers for them.

FlyerInOKC 08-29-2017 07:44 AM

It's going to be a tough road for the people in the affected area for a long while.

acdii 08-29-2017 09:33 AM

It's too bad that water can't be diverted to areas where it really needs it. like underground to refill the aquifers in Kansas.

Greybeard1 08-31-2017 07:34 PM

It's been a bad summer all the way around. Particularly because on July first, my daughter lost the battle against her birth defects. Me with only one sister left in my family, only me to look through all the stuff she accumulated and dumped here to store for her. Doesn't help that I don't really know what I'm looking at and I may be tossing out things that are worth a little money, but I'm getting my house back. Three rooms that were added on to the garage that were too stuffed to move in are now empty, and I have no idea what most of it was, other than junk in my eyes.

Then this past Sunday evening, my left foot started to hurt, ended up going to the clinic yesterday with a blister almost two inches across in the arch of my foot. Having to walk on the side of my foot doesn't help anything. But enter a godsend, (If I was a believer) in the form of Carley. NO, you can't have her last name, she's my godsend. She's been helping me go through the stuff, already prevented me from throwing out things that are probably worth selling. Tomorrow morning she's going to come about nine and drive me up to the clinic, where I hope they'll at least drain the blasted thing. She also mows my lawn, trims it, takes care of the twigs and branches from the black walnut in my yard. She's about forty, never married, and I'm not going to ask why. Several times already she's come, put in four or more hours working at things I can't do anymore, and so far, I haven't been able to get her to accept more than thirty bucks.

At least the nights are going to be cool now for a while, my air conditioner isn't running, still don't help that blasted blister. Infection, I guess, taking an antibiotic, but in only a day, I don't expect much.

And I can get to the things in the garage that are mine, got a bunch of old kits, some Jetco kits, some Comet, I think even a Guillows or two. Bottles of Testors dope, unfortunately all metalflake colors, I might use some if I can open the bottles and find some thinner. Some of them are beyond help, hard like brick. Most of them never opened from the time they were sold, whenever that was, at least thirty years ago.

Enough of my whining.

Rich.

Joe Fisher 08-31-2017 08:00 PM

I think Testors is Butyrate RANDOLPH BUTYRATE THINNER from Aircraft Spruce
