Sorry guys it's been a while since I've been here. FlyerInOKC, Dad was a short guy.....SO he mainly was a bombardier, and waist gunner. I think I can start sharing pictures too. This picture is yours truly circa 1972ish with my RCM 40 and Kraft 7ch. Notice the color scheme, White / Yellow......yeah don't do that color combo if you want to fly your plane; it just looks like a black dot in the blue sky. I lost orientation on my maiden and handed my instructor the controls......he said "THANKS ALOT"!!! but he did save it as it tumbled out of the sky. After a few near crashes I finaly got the hang of flying. I was very thankful my instructor stuck with it. That was my first RC plane from kit to air. What fun!!

Nice shot of you and the model Papasal, very a la mode in 1972 but what's the car? It looks familiar. FIAT? Alfa Romeo?

I didn't start r/c modelling until 1988 so these are the earliest I have. I think they date from the late 1990s. They were taken by my late mother in her back garden. She died in February 2000 so they were obviously taken before then.

PS. My 1974 Rover passed its "Controle Technique" yesterday, a road worthiness check which is normally compulsory every two years. As its classified as "une voiture du collection," or a classic car, the CT lasts for five years. Now I only have to wrestle with lots of French bureaucracy in order to get it registered in France!

Taken near the flooded River Severn at Atcham, Shropshire, England Winter 2014.

It's dawned cold but fine here and it promises to be a good flying day. The BE2e is all charged up and I plan to give it a few flights.

FlyerInOKC 11-20-2019 06:21 AM

Here is a couple of pictures of my Dad. One was taken while serving in the Pacific with the 98th (Heavy) Bomber group before the switched to B-29s. Back row third from the left with the farmer's tan. The second was sometime after the war I'm not sure when.

Flew the BE2e yesterday. It was a perfect day for it. Once in the air and up to altitude it was a delight to fly, however, I stalled it on landing and broke a couple of spars in the starboard lower wing. Easy repair.

There are still a few bugs to sort out.
  1. The fuel tank leaks.
  2. The throttle works but at any position below half way on the transmitter the engine cuts. It's powered by an OS 70 FL.
I felt like calling off the flight but the fuel tank is unpressurised and we get so few perfect days. More time is required in the workshop and on the test bench that's for sure.

The club president brought his camera along.

If you see my Avatar you'll notice my current project it's a 50cc Goldwing Pitts Python in black and red. I'll have some pictures next time of the build. Hopefully it will get finished in my lifetime .....lol OBTW did I mention I love black and red ?....lol

I'm glad you like it Papasal! Dad spent over 3 years in the Pacific Theater and received 4 stars on his Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal. He was stamped essential personnel and couldn't come back until VJ day. He said they took sniper fire everyday he was in the Pacific.

Papasal, here is a picture of the display I made of his WWII awards after they were reissued. Only the Good Conduct Medial is an original the rest and the ribbons are reissued. Dad's enlistment was in August of 1940 which is why he received the American Defense Medal. I think when I go the biggest fight between my 4 boys will be who gets to keep it. Only the oldest is old enough to remember being with him. Dad died when my second son was a baby.

Lol! So true!

I would point out by building your own airplanes it is easier to sneak the parts into the house. ;)

donnyman 11-22-2019 10:31 AM

Those cartoons are funny. Many years ago before I got married, I made it very clear, "If you come between me and my models you will lose!" But I was also smart enough to be sure my wife had her own hobby room full of sewing machines and fabric.
and my room is upstairs accessed from outside the house:p Works for me!

acdii 11-22-2019 01:17 PM

Ha I married a woman who would rather I play with planes. That way she knows where I am and what I am doing.

Of course there are a few women who like to build and fly model aircraft. Free flight scale in this case.

FlyerInOKC 11-23-2019 06:54 AM

Miss Blue Eyes has a full time job keeping you out of trouble. ;)

Monique really knows what she is doing! Impressive model!

acdii 11-23-2019 08:07 AM

Yep she helps out at the SIG Flyin too.

...

Actually we were stopped by the gendarmes on our way back from La Coupe Des Barons to the hotel, but when he saw my British driving licence he started speaking to me in English and let me go without further ado!

acdii 11-23-2019 08:17 AM

Ha the French are still afraid of the Brits. :)

The French need to stay on the British good side in case the Germans decide to invade again! ;)

acdii 11-23-2019 08:43 AM

LOL I would be more concerned over the Austrians! There is a new invasion coming.

That Pitts looks gorgeous Papasal.

I thought that you guys might be interested in what three young English lads did near Buxton in Derbyshire. Not traditional modelling perhaps but I admired the ingenuity.

FlyerInOKC 11-24-2019 06:04 AM

Amazing!

donnyman 11-24-2019 10:03 AM

The dambuster project is within the true spirit of modeling with it's own rewards, my hat is off to them.

Papasal

the Pitts is looking good and I agree red and black is goodhttps://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...5175004a90.jpg
