Difference in products
Can anyone define the difference in COVERITEs Balsarite "FILM" and "FABRIC" products? Just seems that they should be very close to the same formula without any real difference than price. Some suppliers advertise Film product at $11.99 and Fabric at $14.99.
Thanks for your insight. Darryl |
the fabric Balsarite is thicker. it can be thinned with Ironex, to be the same constancy as balsarite film.

The film is thin like water, the fabric is sort of like Sig Stik it.

Jim; Is Ironex available ? I haven't seen it in awhile.
As stated, the Fabric Formula is a higher viscosity. The last two cans that I purchased, jelled in the cans and I couldn't thin them down. I have used the Film Formula on Solartex, though, and it worked well. |

ooo Ok, age check complete... you're right, Tom... FINDING Ironex seems to be as easy as finding Ambroid.... :-/
These days, I've been using Acqua Net hair spray, instead of Balsarite. |
I too tried lacquer thinner, acetone, MEK, reducer for enamel auto paint. It would thin it, but it had a milky, sort of look. It also was settled to the bottom and was solid rubber. Not sure what could be used to thin it. Being I am in Kalifornia, I am not able to get either so I am left with cheap hair spray.
The two thing it was great for was fuel proofing and zero dust. Help covering stick to plywood like it was foam. Buzz. |
Switch to the Film Formula. I never had problems with the viscosity and it holds 21st Century Fabric and Solartex, well.

Thanks for all your replies. The one about HAIRSPRAY was very interesting. We learn something everyday, Don't we.
