repair to carbon fiber landing gear
Just had a hard landing with my 33% cap and have delaminated the carbon fiber gear at the fuse bend. Can this be repaired? I looked through this forum and couldn't see anything on this topic.
Thanks,
Peter

RE: repair to carbon fiber landing gear
without adding some layers its tough, i would drill it full of 1/16 holes at the delam and then saturate the area with laminating epoxy, then grind/sand the area smooth and then add a few layers to the gear at the delam spot and then vacuum bag the whole works to get the added layers nice and tight, it could be done without looking to crappy..
anybody have a better idea?????

RE: repair to carbon fiber landing gear
I'd opt for 7075 over 2024 for this application.
I use 2024 when machining parts that don't need anodizing (it machines like butter) but I almost always use 7075 for applications such as undercarriage legs, wing tubes, etc. 7075 has the advantage that you can anodize it -- a nice set of UC legs with a deep lusterous finish that matches your bird and spats looks so nice :-)

There are different paints that you can use to get the same results.
