Default Epoxy Question

Have a few tubes of 2 hour epoxy. The tubes are about 3/4 filled and are also 4 years old.

Does epoxy expire? The hardner looks fine, but the epoxy resin tube has some soft solid masses inside.

Can this still be used (heated up to melt) or is it garbage?

Also, the temp in the basement is about 55 deg F. Too cold for a good cure?????

Thanks.

Glowfuel,

Epoxy usually has a two year shelf life IF refrigerated. Products vary and this information is usually found on the side of the bottles/package and certainly in the MSDS, but if you have any solids in the mix... trash it... it is too cheap to take the chance on a project.

I had some 30-minute epoxy that failed to harden. Don’t know why but on the second occasion it was thrown away.

Deadstick:

Just for a test, mixed some of the nearly 5 year old epoxy last night and let sit.

Rock hard and looks great. There is no expiration on the bottle. Looks good to me.

So, it seems OK. I do not know what airplanes you build, lets say $1000.00 airplane/radio/engine. Do you want to risk all that for $5.00worth of new fresh glue? Deadstick offered good advice.
