Default Buying Foam for Wing Cores

I am going to try to cuts some foam wing cores and have a question about foam. I have found a supplier of white stucco type foam in 24" x 48" x 2" . He has a bag of 9 pieces for $33.

Is this what I should be looking for?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Ideally what is needed with white foam is 1 pound virgin foam. That is foam of 1# weight/ cubic foot. Virgin foam is foam that has no recycled foam in it. Recycled foam will have hard bits in it that the cutting wire will stall on.

The foam you mentioned 2" x 24" x 48" should weigh about 1 1/4 pounds. Whether it is virgin or recycled is not possible to determine until the cut is tried.

I have never bought any foam for my wings. All I do is go to my local refrigeration firm and ask if they have any cover sheets left over from cool room installations. They are generally 2.4m long by 1.2m wide and 75mm thick.

And the best part is that they just give them away!

Hello,

Just opening a can of worms here ... maybe.
But what do you plan on sheeting the wing with (i.e. blasa, fiberglass, Kevlar, carbon fiber)? And what kind of airplane or sailplane is it going to be?

Mike
