Glassing 40 size
Hey,
Just building a scale 40 size Cessna 152 with a wingspan of 165cm (65") and just wondering if ill glass it. The whold plane is going to be sheeted with 1.5mm balsa (1/16"). Roughly, how much weigh will i add by glassing it?
What cloth will i need and all the other equipment/tools needed for glassing a plane of this size?
Cheers

RE: Glassing 40 size
When using fibreglass/resin the generally accepted ratio of cloth to resin is the same amount of weight for both materials.
When glassing airplanes the heaviest cloth usually used is 3/4oz cloth. The weight of cloth is expressed in ounces/sq yard. So, figure out the amount of cloth you will need for the project, double double the weight and the result will be the approximate weight added by the glassing process.

RE: Glassing 40 size
Hi!
I am currently completing a Northstar 455 and am considering using water born varithane instead of resin with the 3/4 oz. cloth. I am thinking it might be a little lighter than resin plus not have to have catalyst mixed in and reduce the health hazard. I haven't tested this yet and thought I might save myself the trouble by asking if anyone else had tried it? My calculations are that I am just under 5 lbs. without the glass and covering and a few bits.
