building a better cowl?
I have an airplane that came with a very thing vaccume formed plastic cowl and I would like to make a couple fiberglass ones. I have the shape due to the fact I have the plastic one. I have never done anything really serious with fiberglass before and would like any advice or pointers on how to go about doing this. I would like to end up with a very strong, factory-like cowl in the end.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

Just a suggestion. Get some fiberglass cloth, not the real heavy stuff they use on boats. Your LHS may have it. Cut it in strips about 2-3 inches wide mix up some epoxy apply epoxy to inside of present cowl. Lay cloth in it and smooth out. Brush a coat of epoxy on that and let harden. You now have the finished cowl but much stronger.

Is there any way to make two? I am not familiar with fiberglassing but I know you need to make a mold or plug or something. Would the present cowl be the mold, or plug that I would need? Thanks for the good idea though if I only wanted one I would go that rout.
