Epoxy for laminating
Looking fo good epoxy for projects. Hi viscosity.
Humid in fl. West dont work for me , to flexable. Mgs looks good but shipping crazy |
Hi viscosity and for laminating dont really go hand in hand. If west is to flexible, are you sure your fabric choice and/or layup schedule isnt the problem?
|
SORRY LOW VISCOSITY .. DAH ! west system get soft in sun also. hate it . adtech 820 maybe ?
|
Fiberglast has a high temp resin with a Tg around 320f that may work for you. You will probably have to post cure it.

Ive used the adtech 820 and it was fine in the son. Ive also used axxson 2108 and USC635

The best laminating epoxy I have found is from Tap Plastics. It is there 4 to 1 epoxy and used for years to make glass parts and fuselages for Dick Hanson Models. It is a true laminating epoxy and is a ton harder than West Systems whether making glass parts or just doing laminations or glassing wings You will really like the stuff regards Dan |
thanks for all info .. very much .

usc 635 slow hardener?

you know, some research and google searchs will bring up a LOT of choices on epoxy laminating resins available. Maybe some of your time devoted to seeing what is out there would be time well spent. |
Thomas gives good advice. There are many good laminating resins, and all have some different properties. USC635 is my daily go to resin. I use all three hardeners depending on what I am making.
One more thing to keep in mind. With composite structures, fabric orientation is everything. |
Thomas,
1/6 EA6B Prowler up next? I will buy one, Maybe the one I flew in DS1? Documentation can be provided. Sparky PS Rapptor if Thomas cant answer your question you arent doing it right he is the man! |
This newsgroup turned me on to Gorilla Glue a few years ago and I'll never go back to epoxy. You just have to get the original Gorilla Glue, not the GG version of so many other glues.
|
If you are laminating wood projects, balsa and plywood then a wood glue would give u the working time and rigidity after it has set. I use a Titebond glue although am not sure which. Has a green lable. Cleans up easily just wipe the excess with a damp cloth
|
Did that first. You dont have to reply if it to much work..
|
Glass is not proplem.. Soft epoxy is .
|
Well I will through my 2 pennies in hear I have used all the above materials at some point. but the OP did not state what he is building, and that just might be the deciding factor. also he did not say how he was measuring his material and that could be the problem, so IMHO I think we all need more info.
But that just me and I am NOT an expert by any stretch cheers Bob T AMA13377 |
Here u are Rapptor. No its not too much work. But your question should be more exact. In the absence of clarity I chimed in maybe I could be of help. That is why you are here no? For help and not to be insulting...
It is Titebond III Ultimate wood glue. |
I did not mean to insult at all.
project is laying up 3/4 or 1.6 cloth. carbon 5.7 sometimes. all epoxy brands claim their the best. wanted hands on results from users |

I have used this epoxy system in business and for models for nearly 25 years, it has a very low viscosity and a long pot life, it works well for laminating fiberglass, carbon fiber or laminating balsa sheeting on foam core wings as well. I am posting just a couple of projects using this epoxy system. The Extra 300 is a fiberglass and Nomex honeycomb fuselage with sheeted foam core wings and tail feathers and the red and yellow Cobra is an all carbon fiber and Nomex honeycomb airframe. There are two hardeners available, the 83 and the 84, I generally like to use the 84.
