Default It brought back. Memories

This weekend We had a Hanger Sale. Did pretty well, but the high lite was when I met a couple of 7 th graders. I had several 049 kits and a few Sig rubber power kits. They were with there mom. And they wanted to get a kit. The other two were with a dad and grand paw. They were all excited about the plane kits. The mom was not for it. But he returned with his dad and bought the rubber power Sig and the 049 banshee. This brought back memories and Ambroad glue, Ambroad Made a kit called the Maverick I went to one of my plastic containers and I recalled when I bought my last 10 tubes of Ambroad Glue. I also bought a Ambroad Maverick. The hobby shop was closing and had been in business sense 1959 in east Fort Worth. I was working at General Dynamics on the F-16 program transferring A and B models to the Airguard. And another employee told me about the closing hobby shop. I flew u control with a chief pilot at the company. Always had a great time at the circle. Quiet a few GD employees were U Control flyers, and RC also.AJ

In my old age I often think about my modeling past and the Military. I've been looking for a Green Box Nobler. And found out about a recent passing of a guy in Granbury. This was thru the local classic car and truck club. I only recently became a member. And found four other guys that flew U Control. This was mind you, years ago just like me. I shared my story, and they shared theirs, and we did a lot of laughing. Two of the guys were X Navy and both were shop board during Vietnam. I was the only 23 year retiree. And my Airforce duty did not impress them they called me a (zoomy) had not heard that term in years, I just could not resist (Squid) I do recall, was the term, we all laughed. And one of the guys started talking about the Top flight Nobler. And are you really looking for one or just talking? With that said I finally found a Un molested Green Box Nobler. Right out if the Fiftys. Still sealed with the white tape. And a piece of steel sticking out of the top. It's the elevator control rod.

This brought back memories from Torii Station Okinawa and the model hobby shop that was on base. A sub shop from Kadena. And ran by the nicest Okinawan lady. A Navy chief was going on sea duty. And wanted to sell his Nobler. Only one chance to buy it. This was in 1968. The box was a little tattered from it being hauled around from station to station. I built that plane and ended up selling it in Hawaii. Never regreated it but, in my older years I wanted to find another Green box Nobler. Will I ever build it, I don't know, I just really like looking at it. I my glass case. Great Memory.AJ

Well this was a surprise, apparently I was with the same company in the nineties same guy I met only once, the Emery side in Dayton Ohio. He posted Did you ever build and fly the Nobler I sold to you? We exchanged phone numbers, and talked for an hour. He never flew any Models, after we met in 68. I told him that was the year, he did not recall the year or my Name. But remembered Torri Station and his last Sea Duty, and selling that plane. was it really you, and we worked at Emery togeather, that’s how I found you on the winery. When a couple of pilots inquired if you were still flying U Control. It’s a small world in aviation we were all brothersAJ
