Not sure. I would think it would be neccessary for any liablity insurance to be in effect. It's a darn good idea anyhow.

A safety strap is required for c/l speed and combat. Not sure about the rest.
I suggest you go to the AMA site and check the regulations for yourself.

I'm not familiar with the AMA but I suspect a safety thong would only be a requirement for certain events in competition, not general flying in the local park.

AMA general rules require STs in all CL events except racing events. We discussed that in the AMA forum.
