this was a gift from an old friend who passed away its a aeronca champ with a 64" wing span and a 34" fuse, im trying to find out what plans or kit this might have been, it has a madewell 49 engine in it i had rebuilt, im looking for a plan set or another kit. any ol;timers have a clue?

As far as I can tell, Sterling never did a Champ. They had a small Citabria later. My faded memory doesn't recall any kits that fit the description.

Maybe it was built from a plan. Are there any numbers or letters printed on the ribs or other sheet pieces? You know how they printed the parts sheets in the old kits..........John

I looked at the list of 'A' and there are many aeronca champs, but none exactly 64 " ws on there. But at least there are some leads..
The list says where the plan came from, magazine or kit..

I'm thinking air trials..

Some observations and guesses:

At first I thought it might be a "goat" (FF model converted to CL), but the construction appears too heavy for FF. Note the strength built into the landing gear, and how firmly it's mounted. Also the firm engine mounting.

My GUESS is that it is either a CL or RC Scale...because of the doors, if it IS a kit. It may have been built from scratch, using a three-view or other plan as a guide.

Edit: Additional thought. Many of the plans offered by AMA are from John Pond's dream of not letting the old models fade away. I understand that some of the plans are not offered because they are available from another source. Perhaps a note or call to the AMA would yield some info about who would offer the plans you are looking for.
