Need Help for C/L speed plane

Hi ! all fly by wire freaks there
need a little help, got acompetition coming up and need a plane for it.
It's a speed copetition, where the line lengths are fixed and so is the engine displacement. The engine can not be larger than .15 cubic inches or 2.5cc displacement.
What I want to know is that, is there any place anywhere where I can get a specially designed C/L plane kit/ARF for the above engine disaplacement and what would be a good engine plane combo for a winning combination??
Any help would be appreciated a lot
Thanks

If this is a regulation FAI speed competition, there may be restrictions on the plane also.
I'm not into speed but you might do a search on CL, speed,FAI, etc. to find some dedicated speed sites.
These sites may have recommendations.
Good luck. Let us know the outcome.
Perhaps some better suggestions will appear here also. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Try posting this question here:

Barton's speed forum.
And this one for 'the Perky'
See

Why not standardise on this model?

Hi
I too have toyed with a go at .15 speed.
There is a commonly available motor ( ebay etc ) that is a copy of the Rossi .15 speed motor.
It goes under the names of MDS or summat like "UKATAM".
They usually come with a tuned pipe and are very fast, (28,000 rpm on a 6x6 or thereabouts iirc
) however take care if you are looking at bidding or buying one as there are plenty of new ones around and they can be got really cheap ( because there is little demand ) and some folks don't realize that and get carried away because it is a "racing motor".I got mine new in the box for £20 with pipe, book etc.
Fitted with a Rossi style "button head" which lasts for ages and can easily be got anyhow

Let us know how you get on...

Thanks for the reply. There are no restrictions on the models specifications ,except the engine size.
I am basically looking for a kit or ready built model for .15 size engine. I can arrange the required engine thereafter. Any more suggestions??

Looking at some speed models at our local C/L club ( Barton MFC ) they are SOOOOOoooo simple you could scratch build one in one night.
You just need to find the aprox dimensions ( or read the rules re model dimensions on the BMFA rules web page )
They really are just an inboard wing - 2 x planks internally grooved to take the leadouts.
A simple plank fuse with bearers
A simple little tail plane
I think some actually call them a "3 plank design"
The bellcrank is usually mounted on a lil ply plate on the outboard side of the fuse ( no wing there )
A simple tank, sidewinder motor and pipe and off you go !
You could of course add a bit of spruce re-enforcement and / or carbon fibre...
Then you might consider a "fall away" piano wire launching dolly

Here is the engine Ghost is talking about, the UCTKAM 2.5 (translation, CSTKAM) and they often come with a tuned pipe.
If you find a new one on the web make sure you strip and clean it. Be especially careful of the screws, they are fragile and shear their heads off with great ease if you are ham fisted. Also, the head appears to be drilled in situ for the mounting screws, the screws have a difficult time lining up if you change the orientation.
Luke.

If you look up the rules to the "Perky" contest you will find that the goal is not the TOP speed but the closest to AVERAGE speed after all have flown. This type competition will negate need for $$$ engines and probably yield more fun per effort and probably gather more participants, if fun and participation is your goal.
