Some time ago i built a 1/2 A C/L plane called the Pinto and crashed it to death. I want to build another one HELP if you know any thing about this plane. I dont remember the kit maker and i cant find the plan???It was kited for the TD .049 or .051 I installed the early norvel .061 and proped it with a 7-6 it flew so nice. The UP line on the leadout broke (builder error) and it went in nose first to the pavement, OOOOH, just thinking about it makes me sick, it was my first loss and i really did cry on the way home. Well enuff of that if you can help me find the kit or the plan i will pay whatever to get it.
Thank you,best of luck....Jim

The Pinto can be found at RSM.

It looks like a Baby Oriental. One of my favorite planes.
I haven't built it yet. Too many projects in front of it.

According to Dee Rice, who designed the Oriental, he designed the Pinto and gave the plans to Dick Mathis. The Pinto is indeed a 1/2A Oriental. Dee told me this personally.

There are a few more powerful 1/2A engines out there today, than back then. Unless you have the standard two and a half bushels of various Medallions and TeeDees in your shop, consider a look at some of them. 'International' half-A seems to include 1.0cc (0.061 cu in) and there's another useful handful of power right there.
I think a shop in Canada still has BigMig engines in stock, but not everywhere in the USA seems able toget them easily. They are modern metalurgy so modern RC fuels go well, if they have enough nitro...
Welcome home! and Happy X and NY.

I had the Pinto as well. Beautiful plane ( as was the Oriental!) Mine was covered in Metallic Green Super Monokote with gold trim and weighed a freekin' ton! It was almost too pretty to fly. Of course some of the best finishes you will ever see will be found on C/L planes in my opinion.
I remember the article very well from Flying Models magazine. That was where I ordered my plans from. You can still get the plans from FM.

A Think I have found a nice find!
http://www.virginiahobbysport.com/ carries the Pinto kit for under #50.00. It is nice to know there is a distributor Like Virginia Hobby Sport.

Speaking for myself, It was a pleasure as I loved mine as well. I really did try to build it lightly but when it came to finishing it I wanted a killer look for it and I had seen the Metallic Green Monokote and knew in an instant I had to use some of this! Unfortunatly when it comes to weight, the clear weighs the least then the transparants, then the opaques and finally the metallic colors. And it just had to be trimmed in metallic gold Monokote trim.
All the work I had done trying to keep, it light was suddenly tossed right into the can. It was good looking! Just flew like a pig. A super fine looking pig but still a pig.
Remember! we gotta see some pics! And one of you holding it showing your true happiness! I wish I had any pics of mine. Alas...

HI
OUCH!! No build pictures....
I know how it gets. It takes alot to snap pictures and have to post them as you go. Not too many people really understand that. It almost becomes a whole different aspect of the hobby in itself.
I started a new thread and I'll be posting progress on that thread: The Pinto.. my first "Real" C/L plane
I'm planning to get a new camera today. Emphasis on "planning", but I'n not going to be building my kit soon, so I'll be sure to try my best with keeping up with pictures of my build.
