Good looking Ringmaster, George. Ended up going with a Hayes 3 oz. RC clunk tank as it will fit cleanly between the wing and engine without having to cut into the wing. I've got the tank installation system completed, installed a midstream pushrod lead guide, just primed the bare wood areas, hope to shoot color soon.

I made a solid leading edge buck to mold balsa sheet around. I use two or three thicknesses of 1/32. I put plastic around the mold. I spray the 1/32 with water with a little simple green. It gets limp almost immediately. I mold the sheets dry, wrapped with Ace bandage. then I glue them together and put them back on the mold with the bandage. One could put strips of carbon fiber between, silkspan, or whatever. Then I glue the molded sheet on the leading edge as shown above. I find that the mold does not have to be exact shape, as the sheet will expand or contract a little to fit the rib profile.when you wrap it to dry on the airplane. I fill in the back to make a D tube. very light and strong.

Sounds like that would be the bee's knee's for a lightweight Ringmaster, Jim, thanks for sharing. Ringmaster I got came as a gift from a gentleman, Plowboybill on the Brotherhood of the Ring forum. He had started repairs, just needed to be completed, covered and painted. It is the earlier S-1, so it is a little heavier with the larger cross section balsa leading edge. But I covered it in an NOS roll of Coverite Micafilm Pearl White I had, which is very light but stronger than silk. I plan to put a light finish on the fuselage, trim on the wings, so although not contest grade should still fly decently.

Getting closer to finish, just need to mark, add trimmings, and a fuel proof clearcoat.

I have never used Micafilm, that Pearl White looks nice. Couple of questions...does it have grain (spanwise/chordwise) and what are you going to use for clearcoat? George |

Hi guys, I started this thead back in May but RCU changed something and I couldn't get on with Firefox. Then here lately I descovered that Windows Explorer can work and I even have an old account.
Well I flew the Ringmaster some duering the summer but the engine starves for fuel when it go's negitive "G". Kind of gets old just flying level and inside loops. Last time I flew it was running good so I tryed a figure 8 and it quit going up the back side. It slacked out but to my surprize it glided wings level untill the lines draged on the ground and only broke the prop. Well these type tanks used to work before so I took the back off this one and the out let was up aginst the end of the tank. So I ground a V in the end of the tube. It is to cold and windy to try it now but I am looking foward to trying it in the spring.http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1963585 |
Looks like you solved a fuel feed problem. Regarding Firefox, don't know what issues or versions are you using. I've been using it for a while and haven't experienced the problems you seem to be having. Are you running the latest version?

I flew the Ringmaster that I built for the grand kids to learn on. It is nose heavy and the elevator horn is longer than normal. The engine is a Torpedo .19. I got the engine when I was about 12
