Super Ringmaster 45/ pictures

Many are familiar with the Super Ringmaster by Sterling for a 35 engine. This is a new redesign of the model for a 45 sized engine by Pat king. with a 52.5 in w/s and 590 square inches of wing area with a real stunt airfoil and modern construction methods.
ok so enough of the details. This is mine and just finished. It weighs 44 oz and is unflown till this weekend weather permitting. powered with an LA46 and finished with transparent Red Ultrakote and Rustoleum paints. The graphics were done by Walt Umland.. I think that this might go a long way towards redeeming the S.R.'s reputation as the originals were prone to being overweight and I'm sure that I'll probably have a smile on my face after the first flight. |
Dennis, that's a beauty- looks accurately built and NICE finish. How about some more specs-tank, controls, etc?;)

Nothing out of the ordinary. Has a 4 oz tank that is just short of getting a full pattern out of it till I change the venturi. Has a Tom Morris suspended bellcrank with C/F pushrod and ball link, but if doing another I'd omit the C/f rod it as it takes up a lot of room in trying to get it out the back to the elevator. A good wire set up would be fine, I just went for overkill. I made the control horn to get the length that I wanted to reduce the throw and it is pegged at 20 degrees each way. Balanced slightly behind the recommended setting, my preference, and the model delivers well at that balance point. It has a glide that has to be seen to appreciate. Not like the old Sterling drop out of the air landing I've flown it a few times yesterday and the thick airfoil is a definite asset. Good lift and pretty good in maintaining the same speed through the maneuvers. It tracks well and tension is pretty good at the top. I have done all of the maneuvers but can only get a pattern in if doing the old pattern with 1 lap between maneuvers. Flying on 64 foot 015 lines with Powermaster 5/22. Regrettably I lose interest in my models just about the time I get everything sorted out and move on to the next interesting thing that has caught my fancy. Just started a Brodak Zero to replace one that died a few years ago. It was a great flyer and lasted about 5 years. To use an Evolution 36 engine on this one and see how light I can make it. Dennis |
Boy this is an old post about the Suoer Ringmaster Pat king design. I am building the Micro Models Suoer Ringmaster that I purchased on advise of a former U Control flyer not longer alive, this was about 10 years ago. I found three kits all Sterling, two I purchased when I was in the military and one I purchased from a hobby shop in Fort Worth. It’s now closed. I had all intentions of building the S-1 Ringmaster and the S-6 Super Ringmaster. But plans change. Including that last kit The Flying Fool. I had previously built in the Military on Okinawa flew it for five years and totaled it in Hawaii. The S-1 Ringmaster I built when I was 13 in Washington State. Flew and Crashed it rebuilt it several times and powered it with a Fox Stunt 35. Today I am building the Super Ringmaster that Micro Models kit, that was offered about 11 years ago. The Balsa is really soft and I’ve had to do some mods to make it a little crash worthy. The wing, unlike the Sterling original I really don’t think it would survive even a minor impact on soft ground. I built the Brodak By Slob I like it at my age it does me well. And my Veco Warrior Fox 19 power, along with the Veco Chief are powered with Fox Stunt 35s ya I am a Fox Motor Guy. And started to realize changing your control handle from plane to plane is not a good Idea. Cheaper for sure, but I am thinking it’s caused a few of my latest crashes. And maybe using 58 foot .015 lines measured from the bell crank is on my addenda.I have enough Lines to shorten them to 58 feet and roughly that would be a 60 foot circle. I would fly on all my Herd. With lines and handles dedicated to one plane. Doing the one set of Lines to all my planes I think is causing my mishaps and crashes. Because I am getting different elevator and flap throws. To include different elevator throws between my planes. I have noticed this, not understanding why I was crashing so much. I was feeling it was my age I am 77. Lot of difference from 40 when I went to RC. Just my thoughts and I thought I.would share what was I think causing my Crashes. AJ

I’ve been slowly building on my Super Ringmaster. Going pretty well. Getting sidelined with honey doos. Can’t believe it’s December. Gotten all my crash damage repairs done just need to remount my Fox Stunt 35 in my Veco Chief and it will be ready to rebalance and test fly. Been looking at the Brodak Viking. Black Friday sale after turkey day gave ten percent off, but this turkey didn’t order it. Looks like a great kit. I don’t get of buy ARFs. More trouble than they are worth. Even the full kits need modification. I like the laser cut kits. But the black edges just don’t glue well. 400 removes it. On dope and silk fabric. The butyrate dope will not stick, but the Nitrate seems to do better on working with silk covering Wings. Anyway that’s what I noticed when I covered the wings on my BiSlob. Hope everybody has a nice holidayAJ.
