The S.M.A.L.L. Steps fun fly ( in Little Rock) is this weekend so since the weather was perfect the test flight was needed before a flight could be made around a crowd.
It went like this:
The wind was 3 MPH out of the north and I had all the runway you could ask for. (Texas Motor Speedway ) With the batteries toped off and the plane assembled the Taxi test was next, One adjustment was needed, ........nose gear.
Full power! and it was off, judging from the acceleration it should be in the air in 30 or 40 yards,........nothing........50......more back pressure.........60........a little more.........80! ....screw it, go for max deflection!
...........The herk lifted off like a ugly stick and climbed to around 15 or 20 feet, fast. ( a sign of a nose heavy bird ) The rate of climb was far to fast for 17 pounds of foam.
So I went to neutral stick before my air speed was gone. It dove for the ground, I panicked and went to full up. The next 2 seconds was in slow motion. It pulled out of the dive just in time to meet the ground with a bounce. then it landed. I taxied it back for a quick inspection. A glue joint failed aft of the wing , the test flight day was over.
I wish I knew how to post an image, all I get is " the shot is too big.
I found out what I wanted to know.:
A Skip Mast C-130 converted to electric should be restricted to paved runways unless Hi tech motors are used.( I had the best batteries, speed controllers, and connectors.)
Just a note:
RC flight at Texas Motor Speedway is no longer allowed, The powers that be heard about the death of the RC pilot last week. They don't want to take the chance.

Wait a minute... A place where you race extremely high powered cars feels that RC flight is unsafe and won't allow it? That is the lamest thing I have heard in a long time.

race cars stay within the race track, with lots of catch fences, planes are designed to fly ( despite some peoples best efforts lol ) flying takes them over the catch fences and theres lots to hit in a public place. i wouldnt want to fly there unless it was a public event you've been asked to fly at, even then only having the stands behind you with spectators. and the very best of proven pilots and planes
where it would be crazy if the people at Reno said you couldnt fly

Tucan AZ. A man and his wife decided drag racing was too dangerous since he was a new father.
Having seen RC pylon racing before it seemed like a good alternative.
after he soloed with a trainer he was on his own.
One morning last week he was flying and lost his plane in the sun.( something his trainer should told him about) While he was looking for it, it came out of nowhere (presumably) and hit him in the chest at full power.
