This is my seemingly weekly contribution to this forum. Last week we lost the Tiger-2 and had the firewall pulled out of my H9 P51.

In this weeks edition you will see my very, very most favorite plane as it now appears after going straight in at, oh I don't know, 5000 miles per hour. As a bonus you'll hear the story of the P51 only putting down 1 gear for landing. After doing a few violent snaps the other one came down and all went well for the 'stang.

A fellow flier was at the controls of the Ultimate and after doing some BEAUTIFUL flat spins with it was ready to give it back. I couldn't orient the plane and he shortly lost orientation too. He did his best but it got wild and hairy. It ended up going straight in the Jungle that rims our field. Pieces, Just pieces. I feel worse for him than I do about the plane though. I wanted him to fly it and handed him the radio so I don't feel like he owes me a thing. I guess I'll need to change my avatar.

Default Is (was) it a David Patrick Model?

Robotech,

I had just seen your avatar on another thread and I was going to ask you if it was a model by David Patrick ...it is (was ) a beautiful looking plane. Sorry to read about your loss!

Webra 120 seems to be OK. It did break the exhaust tubes on the muffler. Lost all 4 aileron servos. Two had the leads ripped from the case. The other 2 were mangled. It ripped the on-off switch from its housing. The radio seems fine but I don't know if I'll trust the battery pack. It was ripped from the plane and thrown clear but has many dents and abrasions.

We're thinking maybe one of the elevator pull-pull cable may have broken in flight because as he was trying to level it out of a dive it kept rolling out on him. I had the elevator controls set not to do that on low rates even in a full powered dive. It's hard to tell what happenned after the fact because you don't know what happenned in the air or on impact. Because it was rolling out on him I would have to say something failed because I had pullled out of many a full powered dive with full elevator before with no roll. I seem to remember something on the old RCO forums about the stock DP cables breaking.

The Tigger pilot was my daughters contribution. The only thimg still holding him in was the tip of his tail that was CA'd to the rear wall. He did however lose his scarf and a pair of sunglasses. He's headed back to Pooh Corner. Tiggers love to bounce but not from 200ft.!

I'm trying to decide now if I should get another DP Ultimate. My LHS has the one like mine and an all white one in stock. I only had about 80 or 90 flights on this one and really loved the way it performed especially with the Webra 120. Any good recommendations on a GOOD 120 size Cap? I wish H9 still had theirs available.

Thanks for all the sympathies. I covered it with a white linen so the wife and kids wouldn't have to look at it in the shop until I get a chance to "harvest organs"
from it.

My wife's first comments after seeing the plane were " Oh my god! How's Wayne doing?!" ( Wayne is the fellow who was flying it) Then she asked when I could get down to get another one. I don't know about picking out RC planes but I sure did good picking out a wife! I think she's ging to sneak down to the LHS and get me one for my B-day this week because she knows I'm busy working out of town this week and won't have time. I'll act suprised!

Default Stomper

I had one with a Zen G-23 in it, didn't like it.
It was too heavy and had no power compared to a 2-stroke or comparable 4-stroke.
On the other hand, had the same engine in a H9 PT-19 and loved it. (two different kinds of flying)

Hey Carlos

A friend of mine has a PT-19 with G23 engine, I enjoyed flying it.
A G23 on a H9 1/4 cap? No way in the world would that engine pull that plane !! Put a Taurus 2.6 engine on that plane and now we are talking power! To tell the truth i'm worried about the wing loading. We shall see.

Default Your wife what!?

Robotech - I count at least 6 nice airplanes in the background of your photo. And your wife was concerned about replacing the one you crashed?? I get it, she's a mail order right? Come on admit it... Ukrainian I bet. And fairly new too. Not quite skilled in the ways of an American wife, who would have said something like..."Well, one down six to go. When are you going to get that mess of the table?". Does she have a sister?

There's five more out of Camera shot including a 100 inch H9 Cub with a Saito 150 ( what a waste of a good engine!) , a H9 PT19 with a G23 and a Midwest AT6 with a G23. I put HER name on them and she loves it. If she ever gets time she wants to learn to fly but she comes out to the field often and brings goodies for all of us.

Here's a shot of her rating my last flight.

Default Way to go!

That's pretty neat, not many like that. I thought I was doing good just to get my wife to go to a NASCAR Race. She actually likes Mark Martin tho. Hey, he's an Arkansas driver!

Robotech:

Cool wife, the perfect wife. Mine is cool to, she bought me a YS91 AC once.

A feelow flyer has a plane just like yours, after some violent manouvers (at full throatle), the plane lost one whole side of the horizontal stab. He landed ok.

Have a good one

Default Cool Wife

I got you all beat. My wife bought me a Top Flite DC3 and 2 OS .52 engines for it on our 10th wedding anniversary!

By the way, I too have had serious problems letting my childs furry friends fly my planes!!!

Notice Teddybear pilot......

Great Planes CAP 232 after Mid-air collision chopped of right wing. Ouch!

Gunner: Sorry about the Cap. What did you mid-air with? Real difficlult to fly with 1/2 of a wing. My son lost half a wing on his Tiger2 when he mid-aired with a Midwest Mustang. Did a nice flat spin.

Well, I decided to go back with what I had since I liked it so much. I was just getting to be "one with it". The new one is of the second run of planes and has been somewhat improved since I got the earlier one. Better covering job (from great to excellent), better gluing job etc.

I picked up a couple of Dubro 4-40 pull-pull assemblies. Cheap insurance.

Notice the Phoenix bird decal I had cut for the fuse. There's two more to go on top of the wing. From out of the ashes.........

Collision was with a 40size trainer going the wrong direction in the pattern. The CAP is built so lightly that it cut through the wing like butter! I maintained control for a few moments will full rates on the rudder and existing aileron but not for long. Also as usual the plane managed to find a piece of concrete slab out in the middle of a field of tall grass to hit...typical. I build a second One up over the next 30days and was pleased to find that the local hobby shop and Fiber Classics that provided the cowl and pants gave me a "Mercy" or "sympathy" discount on the replacement kit and parts....very cool. New model is flown by the good old standby ...A Williams Bros. Pilot and so far plane has flown very nicley and without incident!
