Default Wrong place at the wrong time

My glider that I built (some of you might have seen the post in the 'ugly planes' thread in the clubhouse) was modified today to give it a lot more down elevator and a little more noseweight in the hope it would fly better. Well, once I had finished, I decided to give it a try.
I chucked off my usual slope and wow! It flew like a dream for about 200yds, handling perfectly all the way. Then as it was getting near the bottom of the slope, it suddenly went tail up and nosedived straight into the ground. This was about 10ft off the ground. I can't work out what could have happened other than a freak wind gust (it was windy, but fairly steady). The elevator linkage was intact when I examined it was set as it should be. Also, the servo just doesn't have enough throw (or the control surface big enough) to make that sort of sudden change. Anyway it happened. The fuse snapped right after the wing, ripping the aileron servo off and damaging the right wing where it joins the fuse. Damn.
Now I've given up on that model (too much work to get it in one piece again, not worth it), so I've started making my next glider. This one is being made of expanded polystyrene. Should be a bit tougher with any luck.
