Default Check those elevators

Today at the 21'st annual Ray Gordon Jumbo fly, Tyke Hale had the elevators fly off his plane. This brings the reallity of it happens to the best of us. I am posting this to serve as a reminder to those who fly these giant scale airbatics planes to especially, but to all flyers in general to CHECK THOSE ELEVATORS.

If you use the Robart hinge points, they form little globs of glue at the tips inside the wing and are VERY hard to pull out even if they become loose everywhere else. But yeah almost anything can fail no matter what you do.

He was flying his prototype extra 300. The elevator halves vibrated loose. THere is a video of it coming off, but I'm not sure if the torq roll and the crash were captured. There are pics of the whole flite including the crash, but haven't been developed. Check vrcfc.org in a few weeks for pics. the mark of a true champion is when he came back from recovering his extra, he then flew his 37.5%Sukhoi without delay.

This is one champion I would never be. I learned after crashing 2 planes in one weekend that if I crash once in a day I go home and hold the tears back and try to figure out what I could have done to prevent the crash
