One important things to remember is always check and put some kind of a marker to the plane with the right channel. I once use a high starts and put it on the wrong channel. 1/3 of the way up I pull down on the stick to make it goes up, but it went the opposite. It stab into the ground 4 inches deep.
I had to re-rib the wings and fixed the saddle a couple of times to get it right. But I did learn something new from fixing it though, so something good did came out of it.

When i originally read your title i though you had a synth tx and were on a different channel then the one you took the pin for.
Now it sounds like you had the wrong moddel in the tx, is this correct??
ALWAYS preflight amodel at the very least look to make sure that the controls are in the wrong the wrong direction.
