Default Spitfire Condo

[img][/img]Topflite Spitfire survived the crash in 4 feet of wheat , couldn't recover it untill the farmer Combined.
Unfortunatly while it lay in the field waiting for harvest (2 Mo. ) the Mice made a condo out of the
fusalage and the wing. The inside was full of wheat and 4 nests , the wheat was the main corse and the
servo wires, air retract hose's , and balsa sheeting were for desert. The only crash damage was the
engine , a OS 91 had snapped off at the firewall and the wing bolts were broke.[img][/img]
There were a total of 13 mice insde the wing and fuse, from grampa down to babys.
OH , and did i mention this was the Spit's Maiden Flight.

Just cut open the cocpit, put a little seat in there and put the name "STUART" under the cockpit, and watch that little mouse fly!

Sorry just had to!

No rebuild, the airframe and wing was so soaked with urine and poop,it stunk like amonia really bad.
I didn't realize they used their home as an outhouse as well. It is in the garbage now.
It would have been a very easy rebuild if not for the urine soaked into the wood, lots of desease with mice.
If it was rebuildable , I would have definatly used your suggestion about Stuart Little

Can I ask what caused the crash? Model spits fly well, but can bite at slow speeds... Just like the real ones!

Reason I ask is that I work on them every day. I work at Rolls Royce keeping their Mk XII Griffon PR version in the air. And I don't like to see any Spitfire go down!

First of all , I envy you for the job you have . If I could back up 40 years , Airplanes would be my life.

Actually the crash was my own fault. It was the maiden flight and the aleron trim was out and was wanting
to bank right. It was flying well otherwise. A friend behind me asked how the trim was. I moved the transmitter
over to my left shoulder for him to trim a couple clicks left while I flew. With all this happening, my concentration
off a bit, the Spit got so far away I lost oriantation in a left bank to come back.
The sad part was it survived the crash very well , no wing damage , motor broke off at firewall , thats it !!
After a breif search , I didn't want to stomp down the farmers wheat. He said he was going too Combine in two
weeks , but the weather didn't cooperate and it wound up being two months. There were five guys saying where
it went down , we were all wrong. we were off by a good 100 feet. The wheat was 4 1/2 feet tall at the time,
and you wouldn't see it unless you were two feet from it .We would have stomped down a lot of wheat and
still not found it. Thanks for the concern
Take Care

Lol. Thanks for pointing out my typo Chad!

Buzz. It's a shame it took so long to find it. When a plane goes down in crops it usually survives well due to the softish landing! Looked nice too, I have a YT Models spit with a RCV120 that's just had it's 30th flight.

Sorry to hear about your maiden flight. And by the way .......one person wouldn't have done that much damage to the wheat. The farmer should have left you in the field.
Nice job (viewing the pics). I'm building one right now. Did you cover yours or paint it?

Did you dispose of all the mice with traps? We just became victorious in a war with rats in our house. Luckily, they didn't harm the planes.

I just lost my Kaos the same way! Trying to adjust the trims by myself, let the plane get away from me. I had the plane on low rates and was too low to pull out. Missed it by a foot or two. If it had been on high rates like normal, I would have easily pulled out. If a frog had wings.........Plane was a total loss. Recovered the engine, battery, servos and receiver.
