There was a thread not too long ago of a plane that was in worse shape. It detailed all that was done. Pretty cool rebuild.
I too think the plane is ready to rebuild. The aft section of the fuse looks to be in great shape. Please post and let us know how it turns out.

looks like a VQ huri, you can get spare parts from Thomas at www.vqwarbirds.com for some of the unrepairable areas, hopefully you saved the scraps so you can reproduce any of the parts that are splintered, firewall looks to be, if not reuseable then copyable.

its frustrating looking at your mangled plane but you would be surprised what can be done to repair it, I just ripped out my landing gear today touching down in the rough grass next to our landing strip, the repair is already finished, and the glue is drying as I type this, on my second flight today, I was not happy [sm=48_48.gif] nobody to blame but myself so I got buisy with the glue.

keeping the parts that are broken is the key for reproduction porposes

BURN IT!!!! If you have to ask....then I have to assume that you don't have the skills necessary to re-build this beauty!

You could learn a lot if you tried......but the choice is ultimately yours!!

I hope I can add some inspiration here.

I decked my VQ Hurricane a while ago and had to strip the covering from the wing to some broken pieces.

The front of the fuse was also totally removed so the fuse was stripped of covering as well.

The decision was made to glass and paint her, but I wanted to o that extra step as this is such a sweet flyer.

I will be putting the details of the makeover up on the build thread I did for this plane.

in the next day or so.

Don't burn her, rebuild her

if you can piece together some of the flat parts..and its more glue than wood..like wing sheeting, or ribs..trace the repaired part on new wood and cut a new piece

Very often it is easier to actually open up or enlarge a damaged area. to allow easier tieing in of the repair parts...

I will often square up a odd rough gouge type opening.

Don´t be lazy, crashes are the dark side of the hobby but dont let it beat you. Look what happen to me when low on knife edge and the engine decides to quick, at the beginnig I want it a matchbox to make it a camp fire but putting the pieces together got it back to life and flies like the first day. Takes patience and time but u can do it

Here some photos before and after.

Rebuild, definitely. Or...well, you could always send it my way, I'd be happy to rebuild it and give it a good, long series of "test" flights for ya...

I know that when I am in a similar situation it always looks the worse shortly after the crash, but after about a week and I have a chance to examine the damage it doesn't look so bad. I find myself determining what are the needed repairs compared to a complete build of a new model and I usually find the repairs are much less. I slao find that making new parts is, in my case, better than using the broken ones. The key to the rebuild is to start and be diligent and not like me and take forever.

I am just now finishing repairs on a Seagull Decathlon and starting repairs on a twin engine 60 trainer conversion. The twin will require the construction of a new fuselage from about 18 or 20 inches forward. I am a builder so I don't find these thing to be that daunting.

Good luck, Jack

I'd rebuild it.

You stop rebuilding them when you're glueing pieces of glue back together. That's when they're done.
