I am 16 and I get my money from dfferent sources. First of all I work Part time at My Taekwondo School. Not many hours, but enough to put balsa on the table. I also have saved up a lot for a car when that day comes. Also watching peoples pets is a good way to make money. Lemonade stand? lol j/k I know I am older than the rest of you, but there are still ways to get money. My grandma is very generous, but she never just goes out and buys me a plane. As far as getting to the field, my dad has my old trainer(no I haven't crashed it beyond repair) so he likes to fly also. To strech money, you can build spads or combat planes. At our club we have this one kind of combat plane, it doesn't fit into any classes, however it is quite fast and cheap. Also you can build spads. What I am doing now is scratch building a profile over the summer. It has been a good experience. It is also cheaper.

Back to the combat plane, the one I built had a foam wing 36", .25 GP Thunder Tiger, and only requires 3 servos. If any of you want the plans for it just email me. You can't fly competition combat with it, but it is a blast for about $20 worth of stuff(-engine radio gear). We fly combat with that kind at our field.

Hello from New Zealand,

Im 15 and fly RC in New Zealand.
My main interest in pylon racing ( of course ) but since the national pylon league has since died here, I have a go at everything I can.

Anyway, money is(was) usually a problem here too, but then I started working on my grand-parents dairy farm in the hoildays.
Its hard work, but i fly my IFO inbetween milking. Also i am good at saving which helsp alot.

Funny this is in the crash forum, but who cares anyway!!

What happens with me is that I have only 2 recievers and something like 5 flyable planes. Befroe I want to fly something different I usually take 45 minutes transferring servos, recievers, switches to another plane. Its the Cheapo way! :)

Anyway better get back to building...

Stefan

Have any of you guys ever got or bought a used radio system? If so is it a good idea. Because i was looking on ebay and they are selling a 270$ radio for about 125$.
Just wondering because buying a whole new radio system at my young age with out a real job can get hard.

don't buy anything from e-bay in my opinion just buy from rcuniverse. By the way I'm from NC i'm 15 and been flying for two years and love to fly scale. I too model on a budget. for example. my firstgiant scale plane will have a gasoline motor in it so a gallon of gas that will last a long time will cost 1.40 as opposed to 15-20 dollars a gallon for nitro. the actual motor is not a 300 dollar zenoah, it's a 28cc weed wacker motor that I bought already converted for 70 bucks here on rcu. it is still an expensive project but it's a lot cheaper than it would be to buy all brand name stuff and all. Take a look in my gallery to see some of my planes. wish i had a big time sponser lol
as for money i get 10 a week from my grandma for taking out the garbage and getting the paper in the morning plus 40 for cutting grass every week the rest well me mum and dad supply the rest lol. I will be 16 in 0ct not at all intrested in driving in fact i am now taking flying lessons to get my private pilots license.
