DIGITAL CAMERA QUESTION

The best way to photograph RC airplanes is to follow the plane while shooting in continuous mode. You cannot do this with any kind of electric viewfinder since all you see is black between shots and you lose the sighting. You can get some cool background motion blur this way. See the pic at the bottom of this post.
A tube hot-melted onto the camera is a good idea if you don't have an optical viewfinder.
Also, you need a 10X optical zoom, or the equivalent of 300mm. And if you want to print anything 8x10, you need 3Megapixels.

Hmmm. Guess I need to keep an eye out for one.
I'm about to begin a Sig SkyBolt I got off eBay. I paid far too much for it, but having something different should be worth it.
That Zlin would certainly qualify. Thanks for the info.

I've been reasonably pleased with 6x and 2M resolution..
For the distant stuff, I like to include some of the background when it's interesting for the composition.
And many times I can fly close enough that even cropping out the background doesn't harm the composition..
From the Tailwinds Spring Pattern Event yesterday..
Scale Fly-in at the Channel Islands Condors.
Ninja at Vincent Summit
And a very happy Eindecker pilot..
All at 6x.

Lots of excellent advice on selecting the appropriate camera - let me throw in a few bits on making the purchase:
The internet makes it really easy to search for the lowest price on a given item, but you shouldn't always choose that vendor. Check out www.resellerratings.com for info on various mail order outfits. Note both the average rating AND the number of ratings when making a choice. It's a life-saver for computer and photo equipment.

A lot of everthing I am reading in this forum is that "you MUST" have lots and lots of MP in your camera to get really good resuls. On the whole - you're all corrent. However, on a bright sunny day and low MP you can turn out some pretty neat stuff. Take a look at the two shots bwlow. They were shot last summer with a 2.1 MP camera. A little bit of fun with photoshop and you can make some nice selective focusing.

A device that uses a light-sensitive semiconductor array connected to circuitry that converts information of light intensity and properties of each photosensitive element in the array into a visual image, or a series of visual images, into a form of specifically encoded set of data thatwith the use of appropriate display devices can be perceived by capable human, or whatever other capable living creature, or other machine as a visual image, or a sequence of visual images, and necessarily uses an optical system to yield that data.
