Filters
I have just bought my first digital slr (canon 450d (Xsi)) and various lenses (Canon EF-S55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, Canon EF-S18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS Lens and Sigma APO 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM lens) . I have seen a lot of arguments for and against using filters on lenses, and I was wondering will I get any advantage at looking at any type of filter for my lenses. I will be using them generally for shooting Giant Scale RC planes, but will be using for other types of RC aircraft to. I have a read a lot of debates on using the filter to protect the lens so I am not really interested in that side of the debate.

RE: Filters
I like to keep a UV filter on - but mostly for protecting the lens. Other than that, I like filters for effects (Like a Star Filter) But haven't found them necessary for anything else. If I need to make corrections, I do it afterward with Photoshop.

RE: Filters
Agreed. I use Nikon's clear "filter" for piece of mind, figuring IF it causes reflections I can take it off easily and probably won't notice any other effects otherwise. I too have attached a couple of my photos.
Good luck!
