Hi I am wondering what I will need to post video on the web.I have an older JVC miniDv GRDVL300 I am not too good with the computer. I can post pics with the software provided but cant seem to post video. I have heard I may need different patch cords. This is the software came with it JLIP vid capture3.1 and JLIP videoproducer2.0 I know with my older computer it will take time to load stuff put Im just lookin to put small video clips of boats and planes. The cable someone said I need is a Firewire if this is true is that the only thing I need and will it plug right to my computer and camcorder. Thanks for any help Dave

You will need to check that your camcorder has a Firewire connector to be sure. You also need to check that you computer has a Firewire connector. If it's a couple of years old it probably doesn't. You can pick up a Firewire expansion card from your local computer. These range in price from around $50 to $100. If you need to get one I would also see if your computer's USB ports are version 2.0 if not then get the combo Firewire/USB2.0 card. This was if you get any new devices(MP3 player, external drives, ....) that can be connected to your computer you at least have the latest and fastest connections.
If you are run windows xp service pack 2 you can use the Movie Maker application that should be already installed on your system to capture video from your camcorder and edit it and finally encode it for the web.
After you create your .WMV file you can then post them up to the web.

Thanks for the info. I dont think I have hook up my computer is a dinosaur. I probably dont have the 2.0 ports either. Might be better to wait till I can afford a new computer. And have it designed to do the things I want. I might just have to stick to uploading pics for now. Thanks Dave

Heres a pic of my tower I dont know if this will help I dont see a hookup for firewire. Im using Win 98 I think second edition. So If I were to go to computer store I would need firewire with card that goes in the back where I took the pic. Also Is this firewire work on all camera or do I need a specific one for the brand I have. Also I pretty good with stuff will I know what to plug in. are the cables in the back ready to go or labeled. Or will the firewire andcard come with directions to steer me in the right direction. Thanks for the help Dave

Your best option is to take you computer info with you to the Computer store and they will be able to help you out. You could even see what they might charge to put the card in and configure your system for you. While you're there you might want to see what it would cost to increase you system memory. If you have less than 1 GB of memory on your system I would see about increasing it. This will help while editing your videos.
