It will work fine as long as the current is held to around 2amps and you use the GWS heatsink.

For a DX-C on a 3-cell Lithium pack, this means using a 11x4.7 prop or smaller.

You'll probably burn up the motor but they are so cheap to replace, who cares! Get one or two replacement motors and the small gear and fly the crap out of it until it fries. You could always go brushless.

i kno i can go brushless, but its so kewl to have a plane that can hover on a brushed motor.

I'm still wondering, whuts a DX-C?

[link=http://www.gws.com.tw/english/product/powersystem/002.htm]GWS WEBSITE[/link] It's the standard GWS motor on a "C" (5.3:1) gear drive.

well...I burned up my motor AND li-poly... [:@]

I took off and the plane just didn't sound like it had a lotta power. I went into a hover and it started laggin even more. Another five seconds and the plane had like no power at full throttle. When it landed, i held the plane at full throttle and the motor was making weird noises and not turning. Then i looked at the battery and it started smoking. I quickly pulled it off burning my finger a lil. I picked up the battery and the connector was melted away, the shrinkwrap was all melted and so were the cells. I just took the li-po and buried it in sand under a tree. I was not gonna drive with it in the car. The motor was super HOTTT!!

I'm assuming the motor seized up and since i held it full throttle, the motor was pulling way too many amps and killed the battery...

Ill get the battery back sooner or later and get a pic LOL

All u need is literally a 10 sec flight to waste $65

Well there's an expensive lesson. Here's another...
I soldered the Deans connectors on my TP 3S 2100 without plugging the other side onto it. It was off a little from the heat and made it hard to get apart. I ended up yanking on the wires and ripping a solder tab inside the pack. I sent it to Thunder Power with a reciept showing it was less than three months old and they gave me a replacemewnt for half price no shipping charge.

Should have listened to Greg!

You really need to do the research before you fly - much cheaper that way.

We are flying the D drive (6.6:1) on the foamies and they are great! With the 3S packs you will definitely smoke the original drive....no matter how much throttle management you use. It is simply a matter of how many flights before it goes out.

I typically will get about 15-20 flights before the brushes and the motor go south....usually losing power gradually after about 12 flights......and when they go they give very little or no warning....got to be careful in low altitude hovers when flying a brushed motor that has several flights on it......ask me how I learned that....

The solution is to keep 8 dollar motors around with a gear puller and a soldering iron...or go brushless. The Himax 2015-4100 is the perfect solution to torching cheap motors. I am running the E-tec 3S1P packs from www.his-hershobbies.com which are only $32.95 (7C) The pheonix 10 and the Himax motor combos for $105...

Safe Flying....

A buddy of mine got over 80 flights out of the brushed gws setup using 3 cell li-po's (e tech) with a 3d foamy
I flew my extra for about 10-15 flights with a brushed setup using the same batts with no loss in power before I bought the brushless himax setup. How are you guy's burning these motors up so quickly?

I was getting one 15 minute flight per motor with my 10C 1500mAh 3S packs and the 350C drive system. I switched to the 400C drive system, and the E (3.40:1) gear ratio. This set up has been holding up very well for me. This is on a GWS PT-17 Stearman which needed the additional nose weight to balance. I'm currently flying it with a 12x8 prop.

David,
Where did you find a 10C 1500 pack?

I got my Tanic 10C 1500mAh pack from www.e-flightline.com. I see that they are currently temporarily out of stock. It took me about two weeks to get mine. The pack weighs in at 3.25oz and has individual taps for balancing. The taps came in handy last week when I left the pack in a tree for 48 hours. The pack was below 1.25 volts per cell and appears to have been undamaged. I see that there is another 10C 1500mAh pack on the market under the name of PolyQuest. Don't tell anyone, but I have been pushing my 8C Kokam pack just as hard.
