A friend has a Multiplex Twister
He is using a TP 18C 2100 clone.
The twister with the 2100 18C pulls 22 amps , 242 Watts.
It flys but that is it.
I few people have suggested it need a bigger pack like a 3S Flight power 3200 or 3800 25C.
or Thunder Power 3200 Extreme
Before he spends $ 130.00 . Will it Work or How does this work ??
Thanks in advance

Increasing the capacity is not going to improve performance and, in fact may degrade it due to higher weight. I'd check some reviews of the Twister and see what the motor numbers are. If yours don't match, I'd question the TP clone. You don't say what configuration the LiPo is. If it is a 2S then going to a 3S of the same capacity will give you better performance, but then you may have to change props to regulate the amps.

Thanks for the reply.
The TP 2100 18 C are 3S
On the twister reviews and threads people are claiming to get 30 to 35 Amps using a Flight Power
EVO 3200 25c 3S
They have Thunder power Extreme here 3S 2200 25C
Weights 40 grams more than the TP Clone 3S 2100 18C Not too much for a 900 gm EDF
This will also let us know if the TP Clones are Crap
I think that is worth a shot.
If all else fails I can always but if off him for my Striker

A larger capacity good quality battery, which also has a higher C rating, will likely give you more voltage at the input to the ESC (less resistance in the battery), so yes, you can get more performance. But my guess is that it won't make a quantum diffference in performance overr the period of the flight, because even with a good battery, the voltage will drop over the period of a flight.
Your friend should also look at his prop and use one that will load the motor appropriately (and the battery!). It is possible that the motor kV is too low for the prop he is using. Maybe go to the next size up in diameter. A new prop is a lot cheaper than a new battery.

Pardon my correction folks, but the Twister is a ducted fan jet. He is limited to switching motors or rotors. There's alot of threads on the twister on rcgroups that talk about set-ups. I haven't built mine yet, but from reading other peoples setups, I went with a mega motor 16-17-2 on a 4 cell TP 3300 extreme v2 battery. I also am going with a minifan 480 and castle 80amp controller with castle bec. I know that's alot of upgrading for most people. We have a guy at our field flying a stock setup and he uses a 3 cell 3200 and it does 70mph or so. not great vertical, but ok. His set-up is probably 350-400 watts. Mine should be 700+ watts. Remember, your battery is your motor. Not a good place to go cheap. Also, a prop is much more efficient than a fan, so you have to be ready to carry a beafier motor and battery to get the same kind of performance out of a fan. The cheapest way to go fast is with a prop jet or pylon racer of some sort. The funjet comes to mind. - Good luck. - Tim

The original question was whether or not performance could be improved by increasing battery capacity. The fundamental answer to that is no, based on the assumption that the batteries that are otherwise identical. certainly if you add capacity AND a better quality pack there is a possibility of improved performance. That said, loudbikes' comments on DF improvements are dead on.

Thanks again
With the TP 2100 3S 18C he is getting 250 watts. Like I said the DF flies but that is it.
He is going to buy a ThunderPower 3S 2500 25C V2 ( I think these are the specs )
or a FlighPower EVO 3S 25 2500 25C . 2500's to keep the weight down .
According to motocalc the EVO will give us 135 W / lb out . Nothing balastic but should fly nice
This will tell us if the origional pack was poor.
If all else fails I will buy it off him for my F27C Striker

I bought a Thunder Power 3S 2200 25C extreme for my striker.
Tried it in the twister first.
Now the twister pulls 27.5 amps and 295 watts at 11.5 V. ( Will they get better after a few cycles ?? )
That is a big improvment over the TP Clones.
Probally not balastic but it should fly much nicer. That works out to about 125 watts out / lb.
( just a guess ) The twister weighs 30 oz. with the 3S 2200 25C Pack
Now I will buy one
Walt Thyng was correct
