I recently picked up the ESC link to use on my 60-Amp Pro Switch-Mode BEC Brushless ESC. After installing everything and hooking up per the instructions I can't get it too recognize the ESC. I am using an adapter that I picked up from office depot to connect to a USB port. Any ideas on what I might try to get it to work?
Thanks Shane

You need to set up the correct COM port for the USB. First, look at the directions for your USB to serial adaptor to figure out how to find the COM port it is connected to. It will be COM1 or COM2 or ...
Then when you open the ESC Link, you need to specify that COM port number, there is a dialogue with a set of check boxes for this. Also, once you set this up, if you reconnect the adapter to a different USB port on the computer, the COM port number will change, so remember which one you use.

No i didn't connect the battery before I will try it and see. I just got it all installed in a plane, does it matter if the motor is hooked up?

I think it may be the usb/serial link I'm using. I don't have a serial port on any of my computers so I had to get an adapter. When I try to install the drivers for it it keeps telling me installation didn't complete. I've tried every combination with and without the motor. I get past the com selection and then it cant find the esc. Not sure what's up with it. Everything is hooked up and working after a couple hours listening to beeps. lol

I have a Gigaware USB-A to Serial Adapter that I purchased at Radio Shack. I have it installed on a laptop with Win XP and it works fine. I have not tried it on my Vista laptop, but the disk says it will work on both.

No I pretty much gave up on it and just set it up old school. What a pain. No matter what I did it wouldn't work and I wasn't about to spend a ton on a cable I may use twice.

I could not get that one I got from Best buy to work, So I brought it back and they refunded me my $38.00 then I went to the local electronice Shop and the guy there sold me this one adl-usb-d9ms. well I went back to the shop and connected it all up and loaded the new software and WALA!! IT WORKS. "WOW: and so much easier to do it this way than the OLD SCHOOL way!! It was only $15.00 to boot! Also here is a website with info on the USB to DB9 adapter I'm NOW useing!! http://www.landmelectronics.com/product.cfm/8318/ Hope this helps!!
Once you get it working you will think it was worth all the hassel!! Happy Flying!!

Hi Pit Viper1 or Dolan,
I just bought the eflite rs232 esc link also. Could you please tell me which way the esc throttle channel plugs into the link cable?
It will physically fit into the cable without regard to polarity, I'm afraid of burning something up if I don't get it right.
Haven't tried it yet because of this. Thanks, Jim

Hey Buddy, The plug should be keyed so that you can't put in it backwards. One way it will seem difficult to plug in and the other way it will go easy.
If you not comfortable with that then peel back some of the heat shrink enough to see the color of the wires and plug it in so that the wire colors match......
Good Luck, Let me know how it goes!!
