I plan to buy a MSR or 120 to get started but want to eventually fly a bigger bird so plan to use a training system. I am wondering if i can get away with just the real flights basic system instead of the G5. My only plan is to train for Heli

I'd say thats fine.
Another idea is to try Horizon Hobby's Phoenix: [link=http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=RTM2500]Here[/link]
It seems to have a bit more flexibility in upgrades (add on downloads) and you can use your own transmitter. Plus it is only $30 more than G5 basic.

I have RealFlight G4.5 with controller, and have also bought ClearView. Very cheap, works well, and will give you basics, but not as powerful as the more expensive systems. For 39.95, it's ok (http://rcflightsim.com/index.html). You must supply your own Transmitter and USB cable.
