Just charged the battery up after my first drain and I wanted to try and hover in place since it's dark out. I turn the throttle up and when I get to about 80-90% (Shouldn't the heli get lift at 50-60% throttle? Seems a bit high) the heli hops in place. If I drop the throttle down, it's fine, but the moment I get it to where it wants to lift off, it hops. I've since turned it off so I don't ruin anything. I just installed symmetrical wood blades to see if they'd help and I was able to hover outside without any issue.
What's up with the hopping? I thought I balanced the blades properly...

Oh, and these are forceful hops, like it's being thrown to the ground really hard. It just fluxes in place but it seems pretty rough and not normal.

Could be the battery or the main motor. How many flights on the main motor? I had the same problem until I changed the motor. Also if the BCP balde pitch is real high it can cause excessive drain on the battery and motor, thus shortening the life of the motor, which can lead to hopping.

The battery may not be fully charged. The heli is essentially new. The previous owner probably had 1-2 flights and crashed and sold it. If the battery isn't fully charged, would that cause it?

Sorry to hear your having trouble. Mine doesn't list off until about 75% throttle, the blades don't even start spinning until about 25%, thats how most helis are set up.
I am not sure about the hopping, mine was kinda hopping today in the grass int he yard but i think its cause i was on unlevel ground the reason mine was but it wasn't that bad as your describing.

Yeah, I'm taking it to the LHS on Monday to have them set the trims and all that. If I have to pay a few bucks I will, but I'd like to get the heli in a flyable mode so I don't need to worry about anything

I had the exact same thing here after my rotor blades hit a cardboard box (I broke a servo).
I could fly and it acted just like the sticky pitch problem, I tore the head apart, cleaned and lubed and reassembled it, the problem was still there, then I started to look at the servos.
Try this' with the heli OFF and the battery unhooked :
Level your swash plate
Grab your blade mounts and twist them (twisting the blades, PITCH) and watch the servos.
All of the servos should move together (try it a few times). if one does not then move that servo by hand and compare it to the others.
If it is stiff you proabably have a bad servo.
If you find a bad servo swap it out and it should work right again.
Also look at www.bladecprepair.com there is a lot of good info there.
