Default gyro question

Lots of good info here on the CP!! Ok, started with a CX. My father wanted me to upgrade so he could get my CX.. So I got the CP about a year ago.. I think I may have had a problem the whole time I've had it.. It flies great, but once and a while I'll lose the tail rotor.. Not completely, but the copter will start to rotate and I can't get it back before it falls out the sky.. The tail rotor is still turning, but it won't spin fast when I need it too.

-battery fully charged
-have adjusted the pots to no extent

It'll fly fine for a while and then it will start rotating.. I move the stick and ordinarily I'd hear the tail rotor start screaming, but when this problem arises it does nothing... It's like the gyro is keeping it from speeding up. I've replaced the tail rotor motor, it's not slipping either.. I've pretty much ruled out everything but the 4in1. Anyone heard of this problem.. I use plastic blades, but this happens with either wood or plastic. Before I drop 70 bones on a new 4in1 I hope someone has some info!

Default RE: gyro question

most blown 4n1's result in consistent control problems, not randomly. regardless, my first guess would be a glitching 4n1. so you probably are right, you would need to replace the 4n1. you can save some $$$ by buying a 3n1 instead, and using the reciever from your 4n1. there are no real modification to do this. it's pretty much plug-n-play; you just need 2 servo extention wires, some double sided tape, and if you want to get fancy, some shrink wrap.
